Under coach Kim Sang-sik, the Vietnam U23 team has built a solid foundation. The relatively small difference between reserve and starting players gives coach Kim Sang-sik many options. The South Korean coach often uses various personnel options against different opponents, helping the Vietnam U23 team play diversely and avoid being predictable.
Despite frequent changes to the lineup, the U.23 Vietnam team has always maintained a solid and balanced core across all positions, which is the foundation for their success.

At the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 Championship, coach Kim Sang-sik's team won the title with four consecutive victories. In the 2026 Asian U.23 Championship qualifiers, the team won three consecutive matches, securing their place in the finals.
The strength of the Vietnam U23 team lies in their solid play and clear tactical approach, which allows them to exploit opponents' weaknesses and score decisive goals. Coach Kim Sang-sik doesn't assign specific goalscoring duties to any player; instead, players in all positions, including defenders, actively push forward to score. Therefore, in each tournament, a different player scores for the Vietnam U23 team.
As the V-League 2025-2026 progressed through four rounds, the Vietnamese U23 players continued to build confidence among fans. The players trusted by coach Kim Sang-sik shone in each round and became key players for their respective clubs. In round 4, coach Kim Sang-sik was delighted to see Phi Hoang, Duc Anh ( Da Nang FC), Hieu Minh, Xuan Bac, Thanh Nhan (PVF-CAND), Anh Quan (Ninh Binh FC), Ngoc My (Thanh Hoa), Khuat Van Khang (The Cong Viettel)... playing exceptionally well and contributing to good results for their clubs.
These players will continue to hone their skills in the V-League until November 10th before they gather to compete for the gold medal in men's football at the 33rd SEA Games.
However, the Vietnam U23 team needs to strengthen its attack to have enough firepower to penetrate the opponents' defenses. Especially with the upcoming SEA Games in Thailand, the host nation's U23 team will be very formidable. In addition, the U23 teams of Malaysia and Indonesia have many naturalized players, making them also very dangerous. Therefore, by strengthening its attack, the Vietnam U23 team will be more confident in achieving its goals and bringing joy to its fans.
