Efforts to "retain" students

At Chu Van An Primary School in Cuor Dang commune, for many years, with the support of the community, the teachers have persistently campaigned and provided assistance to "keep" students in school.

Chu Van An Primary School has 100% ethnic minority students. The school has one main campus in Cuor Dang B village and two satellite campuses in Kroa B and Aring villages. To ensure student enrollment, the school proactively coordinates efforts to encourage students to attend school.

Teachers from Chu Van An Primary School, in coordination with village heads and respected community leaders, went door-to-door to encourage students to attend class.

According to Ms. Le Thi Tan, the school principal, the school assigns teachers to regularly visit the homes of students at risk of dropping out to understand their circumstances and explain to parents the importance of education. Furthermore, the school actively connects with organizations and individuals to implement various charitable programs at the school, hoping to alleviate students' hardships and allow them to focus on their studies.

Notably, for many years, the school has closely coordinated with village leaders and influential figures in the community to promote and encourage students to study diligently. The case of the two brothers, Y Thin Êban, a 4th-grade student, and Y Nghinh Êban, a 3rd-grade student, in Kroa C village is a prime example. Their parents work as laborers to make ends meet, and there were times when it seemed the children would have to drop out of school due to their difficult family circumstances. Understanding their situation, the teachers always stayed close to them, encouraging them to study hard; connecting them with philanthropists to provide scholarships; and coordinating with the village leader of Kroa C, Mr. Y Ngoan Êban, and influential figures in the community, Mr. Y Ui Adrơng, to promptly visit and encourage the children to attend school. The care and attention of the teachers and the village's self-governing committee helped the Y Thin brothers feel happy and confident attending school.

Chu Van An Primary School has consistently maintained a high student attendance rate.

Mr. Y Ngoan Êban shared: “Whenever a family intends to withdraw their child from school, we go to their home to find solutions and provide timely support so that the children do not drop out midway.” Thanks to this coordinated effort, for many years, Chu Văn An Primary School has maintained a nearly perfect attendance rate.

In reality, in the effort to "retain" students, especially those in ethnic minority areas, along with the school's efforts, village leaders and influential people play a crucial role in disseminating information and changing people's perceptions. Using their influence, they intervene and coordinate with the school to persuade students to return to school.
