Bat Xat farmers care for and prevent diseases in spring rice

Early in the morning, Mr. Dao Dinh Tru went out to visit the fields to check the pests on the rice plants. Some small areas in the fields showed signs of brown spot and rice blast. According to Mr. Tru's experience, these signs require timely spraying of pesticides to prevent spreading widely. Mr. Dao Dinh Tru, Tan Bao village, Ban Qua commune, Bat Xat district shared: "Every year, rice blast occurs, but this year, there are very few planthoppers and leaf rollers, as usual, there are many."

Rice blast and brown spot are two diseases that can cause high damage, lasting throughout the growth of rice plants, often causing leaf burn at the tillering and panicle initiation stages and damaging the panicle neck at the flowering stage, greatly affecting yield. Therefore, when detecting signs of the disease, farmers have sprayed pesticides promptly. Ms. Lo Thi Vai, Tan Bao village, Ban Qua commune, Bat Xat district shared: "During this period, rice grows very quickly, if not closely monitored, it is very susceptible to pests and diseases. When detecting the disease, I inform the agricultural extension officer to go to the field to see and advise on spraying pesticides."

Farmers need to strengthen their grip on the fields, promptly detect pests and diseases to proactively take preventive measures.

This spring crop, Bat Xat planted over 1,000 hectares of rice. While in other localities, people mainly sow rice in the main crop season, in Bat Xat, due to the nature of farming, people often divide it into 3 crops, including: early crop and main crop in lowland areas, and late crop will be planted in some highland areas. This year, the erratic weather, alternating sunshine and rain, has created favorable conditions for pests to develop and cause damage, especially in the early spring crop area. Professional sectors are actively participating, closely monitoring the development of pests and diseases with people to have timely handling directions. Mr. Mai Huu Duc, Agricultural Service Center of Bat Xat district said: "For people, the first is to increase field inspection. The second is to check once a day, when there are pests, it is necessary to inform the professional agencies to have timely handling measures".

According to the recommendations of the industry, the end of April and the beginning of May is the time when pests and diseases break out strongly, so from now on, farmers need to strengthen their monitoring of the fields, promptly detect pests and diseases to proactively take preventive measures, ensuring productivity and output of the spring rice crop.
