(NLDO) On the evening of September 7, director and Meritorious Artist Le Nguyen Dat performed the Cai Luong play "Solar Eclipse" by author Le Duy Hanh at Ben Thanh Theater. Despite the heavy rain, many audiences came to watch and cheer for the experimental play.

This play will participate in the 4th International Experimental Theatre Festival 2019, organized by the Vietnam Association of Theatre Artists in Hanoi, which will open on the evening of October 4th. Up to this point, Ho Chi Minh City only has one play participating: "Eclipse".

Having built the Sen Viet Stage for over 10 years, director Le Nguyen Dat has been nurturing the idea of ​​establishing a stage specializing in experimental theater. He hopes to create a platform for young directors and actors who have graduated from the Department of Traditional Opera at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Film. Last night's program also celebrated the traditional Vietnamese Theater Day of this brand. Many famous artists attended, sharing in director Le Nguyen Dat's joy.

"Eclipse" is an experimental Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) play written by author Le Duy Hanh, adapted by young author Nguyen Phuong (currently directing at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Film).

According to director and Meritorious Artist Le Nguyen Dat, to achieve the "debut" production shown last night, the script was changed from the original and underwent more than 10 revisions and consultations with experts, in preparation for the competition in Hanoi from October 4-10 (the play will be performed as part of the festival schedule on October 11).

The play "Eclipse" revolves around the artist's desire to fully immerse themselves in each role, and when the curtain closes and the stage lights go out, the social impact of the role will not be forgotten.

Director Le Nguyen Dat shared that the play features many experiments and innovations, and promises to be a highlight of the festival as it incorporates modern elements in its music , blending a bit of rock and music from other art forms without losing its traditional essence.

The evening concluded with a meaningful celebration of director and Meritorious Artist Le Nguyen Dat's 47th birthday, thanks to a surprise from his students. People's Artist Thanh Ngan, representing the artists associated with the Sen Viet stage, congratulated the director who had previously brought her a gold medal for the play "Sacred Realm" in 2015.
