In a difficult economic period, consumers tighten their spending, the model of raising special animals that once gave huge profits is even harder to compete. Accordingly, the specialty livestock movement attracted a large number of farmers to participate and failed because high-priced specialties were not easy to sell.

But there are many farmers who persist with specialty livestock and adjust to scale, and at the same time diversify products according to the model of circular agriculture and still get rich in difficulties.
* Don't follow the movement
The model of raising special animals such as ferrets, pythons, snakes, tortoiseshells, crocodiles, etc. is a high-priced product line that is picky about customers. Although there are farmers who get rich by farming specialties, this is not a popular model that everyone can participate in because of the large investment capital and high risk if not experienced. Therefore, to successfully raise specialties, farmers must meet necessary and sufficient conditions.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Nghi, a specialty farmer in La Nga commune, Dinh Quan district has more than 20 years of farming specialties such as crocodiles, pythons, snakes, weasel, porcupines... Common characteristics are less care, high resale price because it is difficult to raise mass. He persisted in keeping his job even in the years when specialty products fell in price.
According to farmer NGUYEN QUOC NHI, in the current difficult period, farmers should not invest in raising high-priced specialties on a large scale, but need to look at the market's demand to adjust output accordingly.

Mr. Nghi cited: “Currently, I am selling commercial snake meat at the farm for about 430 thousand VND/kg. This is a high profit margin. In the past, many people who followed the snake farming movement failed, there were years when the price dropped deeply because it was difficult to sell because China stopped importing.
According to Mr. Nghi, because the specialty farming model requires high investment capital, it requires farmers to have brains, techniques and even "livers". The decisive factor of success or failure is in the experience and skill of the breeder to know how to raise the animals quickly, to know how to handle when the animals are sick. For example, with the crocodile, in the past, the risk of disease was very low, but today there are many diseases, especially sudden death, if inexperience is a failure. Thanks to their good skills, they not only raise commercial livestock but also breed themselves, both reducing investment costs and earning additional revenue from selling breeds. Here, farming experience is accumulated from the learning process, especially paying tuition fees from the actual production process.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong is also a farmer with many years of experience in raising specialty breeds such as pheasants, wild chickens, etc. His farm is linking with many local households to replicate the model of specialty farming and include products for them. Mr. Phong shared: “Reding pheasant is suitable for urban agriculture because it can take advantage of a small area, much higher profit than raising other poultry species. Farmers have to work hard to learn, learn from experience to limit the risk of copper loss, and learn to understand market demand before investing.
* Upgrade for specialty
In order to raise the level of specialties for a more stable output, a number of cooperatives and specialty farms in the province are increasingly interested in investing in farming according to VietGAP, organic standards, and building a link chain from production. to consume, participate in OCOP product certification (one product per commune program) or to create consumer confidence.
Mr. Hoang Cong Phuoc, Director of Doc Mo Farm Cooperative (Doc Mo Farm) said that the farm is providing many specialties to the market such as: wild boar, rabbit... All products from plants and animals Farm-raised are all organically produced. In addition to fresh products, the farm invests in processing to produce many unique and delicious dishes for diners such as: Cold Duck Breast, Garlic Sausage, Duck Leg Rillettes... with the goal of creating good agricultural products with good prices. sustainability for both the environment and people.
Sharing the story of getting rich by farming specialties, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Nghi added that he invested in a specialty farm in the model of garden - pond - barn with a closed process. For example, the food to feed the ferret is fruit in the home garden. His farm raised about 800 crocodiles with the source of food being discarded, dead chicks, so the cost was very cheap. There are trash fish ponds to take advantage of residual bait and feces of snakes and crocodiles as food for fish. Raising specialties according to the above cycle not only helps him reduce costs, but also limits the risk of output when the price of this livestock falls, the profit from other livestock makes up for it. In addition to a variety of farming specialties, Mr. Nghi also set up a YouTube channel to introduce his specialty farm. Currently, the customers are restaurants and restaurants who order directly about 30% of the farmed output, the rest are sold to traders, so he is more active in output, and the product can also be sold at a better price.
