The Ba Na ethnic village, nestled against the cliffs of Ta Kon Citadel dating back 1.8 to 2 million years (Vinh Son commune, Vinh Thanh district, Binh Dinh province), cultivates many flowers and organic vegetables for ecotourism . The high mountain scenery, with blooming peach blossoms and a variety of fresh, organically grown vegetables, creates a breathtaking, movie-like landscape...

Japanese experts traveled all the way to Vinh Son to survey the soil; peach blossoms bloomed profusely in the highlands.

Mr. Dinh Van Anham (from K3 village, Vinh Son commune, Vinh Thanh district, Binh Dinh province) said that peach blossoms began appearing on the hills of Vinh Son around 2016.

At that time, Mr. Anham and many other households in Vinh Son were selected to be pioneers in planting temperate flowers on over 1 hectare, such as: Da Lat peach blossoms, cherry blossoms, Northern peach blossoms, hydrangeas, wild sunflowers…

In 2019, thanks to a connection with Mr. Kato Hirosuke, Chairman of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association, Binh Dinh province imported 200 cherry trees from Japan to plant as a trial in Vinh Son.

Following successful trials, by the end of 2020, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province approved a project to plant Japanese cherry blossoms, apricot blossoms, and jacaranda trees to create Vinh Son, the "flower capital."

The project will involve planting 1,000 Japanese cherry blossom saplings, including varieties such as Oshimasakura, Kanhizakura, and Kawazusakura.

In addition, the project also incorporates planting cherry blossoms from Da Lat, Nhat Tan, and jacaranda trees. The Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association has also committed to supporting Binh Dinh with approximately 10,000 Japanese cherry blossom trees for propagation at the Vinh Son ecological zone.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dao, Chairman of Song Kon Forestry Company Limited, the unit assigned to undertake the project of planting cherry blossoms in Vinh Son, agricultural experts from Japan have come to Vinh Son to provide support. After surveying the area, the Japanese experts assessed that the soil and climate are very favorable for propagating Japanese cherry blossom varieties.

From here, Binh Dinh province began experimental breeding and planting of Japanese cherry blossoms in Vinh Son.

"Currently, we have planted 2,000 cherry blossom trees of various types in Vinh Son, including 500 Japanese cherry blossom trees, 300 Northern cherry blossom trees, and 1,200 Da Lat cherry blossom trees."

"For the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025, the domestic peach blossoms grown in Vinh Son are all blooming beautifully, while the Japanese cherry blossoms are currently in their growth and adaptation period to bloom," Mr. Dao said.

According to Mr. Dao, after monitoring, the 500 Japanese cherry blossom trees planted in Vinh Son have been rooted in the soil for 5 years, and most are growing quite well, but they need sufficient time to adapt, about 10-15 years, before they will bloom.

From the successful propagation of cherry blossom varieties both domestically and in Japan, this spring, the vibrant red blossoms of cherry trees can be seen fluttering beneath the roofs of the Ba Na ethnic minority homes.

Mr. Dinh So's household (K3 village, Vinh Son commune) is also a pioneer in planting cherry blossoms with the aim of building a homestay to welcome tourists. During Tet (Lunar New Year), the cherry blossoms in Mr. So's garden bloom red, attracting many visitors from the lowlands and young people to come and take pictures, making the atmosphere of the high mountain village even more joyful.

Developing tourism in Vinh Son to become a distinctive ecotourism area.

According to Mr. Dinh Khanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Son commune, the current population of Vinh Son commune is approximately 3,700 people, mainly of the Ba Na ethnic group. The people here are preserving many cultural traditions, such as weaving, gong playing, embroidery, and various forms of musical instruments, dance, and singing.

"In recent years, thanks to the movement of planting cherry blossoms and growing eco-friendly vegetables, many households in the village have started to focus on opening homestays for eco-tourism. Many cherry blossom gardens of the households are developing very well and blooming beautifully...", Mr. Khanh said.

Mr. To Hieu Trung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Thanh District, proudly recounted that Vinh Son commune has long been a land rich in potential for ecotourism and community tourism, but it has yet to be exploited to its full potential.

Besides the year-round cool climate and fertile soil, the Ba Na - Kriem people in Vinh Son also preserve many unique cultural identities, with vibrant gong and dance performances; in addition, the area boasts many delicious and distinctive local dishes such as: carp, black pig, bamboo rice, rattan shoots, and grilled chicken.

Around the residential area, there are also many historical sites such as: Ta Kon Citadel, Nguyen Hue orange grove, La Pin stream…

After celebrating the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025, this district will begin organizing the cherry blossom festival in Vinh Son (February 8th and 9th) to serve local people and tourists celebrating the spring festival.

"We will strive to make Vinh Son a distinctive eco-tourism destination that attracts visitors to Binh Dinh. Initially, the locality will update its cultural identity, specialties, and historical sites to integrate them into experiential tourism tours for locals and tourists," said Mr. To Hieu Trung.
