(QBĐT) - With the aim of utilizing and promoting the natural medicinal plant resources in the locality, the Len Chua Agricultural and Ecotourism Cooperative (Len Chua Cooperative) has produced Hoanh Son 6-flavor herbal tea and Len Chua dried bananas. Thanks to their quality, these two products are gradually establishing their brand in the market and successfully building a 3-star OCOP product.
The Len Chua Cooperative was established in early 2023 in Xuan Trach commune (Bo Trach district), specializing in producing teas from medicinal plants readily available in nature. Sharing his production idea, Mr. Dinh Xuan Hau, Director of the Len Chua Cooperative, said that he had visited tourist attractions in the province and noticed many products made from wild bananas from the Central Highlands being sold to tourists. From that, he realized that in Quang Binh , especially in mountainous communes, there are many medicinal plants and wild bananas, giving them a valuable source of raw materials to utilize and develop production.

Driven by that idea, Mr. Hau decided to develop dried banana products from Len Chua and Hoanh Son 6-ingredient herbal tea. To ensure a quality supply of raw materials, the cooperative proactively researched and established partnerships to purchase bananas and medicinal plants harvested by local people in the forest.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Vu, in charge of marketing at Len Chua Cooperative, after purchasing the bananas, the cooperative selects the ripest, most beautiful ones, wraps them in neem leaves and straw for about 3 days until they begin to ripen, then peels them and puts them in a drying machine. Unripe bananas are sorted, sliced, and dried. Mr. Vu added that to ensure the bananas retain their best quality and aroma, in addition to selecting the ripest fruit, the drying process must also meet the required temperature of around 70 ° C for 24 hours.

Hoanh Son 6-Ingredient Vine Tea is a product combining various medicinal herbs, including: Blood grass, blood vine, tamarind, chrysanthemum, passionflower, and fat grass. After purchasing the raw materials from people in Minh Hoa and Tuyen Hoa districts, the Len Chua Cooperative processes, slices, and dries them, then grinds them into powder and packages them in individual tea bags. The cooperative also produces a raw product for those who need it. However, based on customer preferences, Mr. Vu stated that the Hoanh Son 6-Ingredient Vine Tea in tea bag form is still more popular due to its convenience and attractive packaging, making it suitable as a gift.
Thanks to the efforts in production and business, the dried bananas from Len Chua and the six-flavor Hoanh Son herbal tea from Len Chua Cooperative, despite being relatively new to production, have already gained recognition and popularity among customers. The main markets for these two products are tourist destinations and agricultural product stores within the province. During peak season from April to September, the cooperative's sales volume reaches approximately 2 tons per month, with profits ranging from 17,000 to 20,000 VND per kilogram.
Director of Len Chua Cooperative, Dinh Xuan Hau, shared: “Quality is the top priority for us when producing products at the cooperative. Therefore, with the dedication and efforts of the entire team, in 2024, Len Chua dried bananas and Hoanh Son 6-flavor herbal tea were recognized as 3-star OCOP products. To expand the market to other provinces, in the coming time, we will strengthen the promotion and introduction of products on e-commerce platforms and social media applications.”

Along with promoting the value of local natural medicinal resources, the Len Chua Cooperative has contributed to providing regular employment for 10 workers and seasonal employment for approximately 5-7 local workers. It is expected that in the future, after investing in additional machinery and equipment for packaging and processing products, the cooperative will increase the production of Len Chua dried bananas and Hoanh Son 6-ingredient herbal tea in large quantities. In addition, the cooperative is also interested in processing various types of tea from medicinal plants, such as: Stomach-cleansing leaves, 10-ingredient herbal leaves, perilla, bitter melon, etc.
Chairman of Xuan Trach Commune People's Committee, Cao The Vinh, said: “Developing OCOP products is an important task that the commune has been resolutely implementing in recent times. The Commune People's Committee always creates favorable conditions for cooperatives, businesses, and production facilities in developing production. As a result, to date, the commune has 3 products that have achieved OCOP 3-star rating, including: Len Chua tourist facility, Len Chua dried bananas, and Hoanh Son 6-flavor herbal tea. These products are effectively utilizing their potential, advantages, and quality…”
