Onana missed the showdown with De Gea.

On the evening of September 8th, goalkeeper Andre Onana will not be available for Manchester United's final pre-season friendly match against Fiorentina at Old Trafford.

Onana hasn't played a single minute in the preseason due to injury.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper suffered a hamstring injury in training last month and has not played a single minute in the 2025 summer friendlies. Recently, Onana has only participated in non-contact training sessions to avoid a recurrence of the injury.

Manchester United hope Onana will regain his fitness in time for the crucial opening match against Arsenal on August 17th. This means Onana will miss the opportunity to face David de Gea, the Spanish goalkeeper who is a key player for Fiorentina.

Onana arrived at Old Trafford from Inter Milan in 2023 to replace De Gea, and was trusted by former manager Erik ten Hag thanks to his ball-playing ability. However, he made numerous mistakes that directly cost the club points. The 2025/26 season could be Onana's last chance to respond to criticism and retain his place in goal.

Despite rumors about his future, MU has not yet put Onana on the transfer list.
