Additionally, OpenAI has also been discussing internally the possibility of reducing the ChatGPT subscription price to just a few dollars, instead of the current $20 per month. However, it remains unclear whether OpenAI has discussed this price reduction plan with Reliance.
Reliance is also exploring the possibility of selling OpenAI's AI models to enterprise customers via an application programming interface (API). Additionally, the conglomerate led by billionaire Mukesh Ambani is considering hosting and operating OpenAI's AI models in India, to ensure that customer data within the country remains within its borders.
Specifically, Reliance discussed running OpenAI and Meta's AI models on a three-gigawatt data center it plans to build in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Reliance claims this will be the world's largest data center.
Reliance Industries is one of India's largest conglomerates, operating in diverse sectors including petrochemicals, oil refining, oil and gas exploration, telecommunications, retail, and green energy.
The fact that global technology companies like OpenAI and Meta are seeking collaboration opportunities in India highlights the country's growing importance in the field of artificial intelligence. With over 1.4 billion people and a rapidly developing technology sector, India is a promising market for AI platforms.
Reliance Jio, a telecommunications company under Reliance Industries, is currently one of India's largest network operators and has the potential to play a significant role in delivering ChatGPT to hundreds of millions of users in the country. If the deal between OpenAI and Reliance is successful, it could be a crucial step in expanding AI accessibility in the Indian market at a more affordable cost.
