Oscar has retired. |
"I wanted to contribute more to Sao Paulo, I wanted to play more. I think I had both the footballing ability and the age to play more, but unfortunately this happened. Now I will retire and continue to support Sao Paulo, continue my life as a fan," Oscar shared.
"I ended my career in Sao Paulo, after going to many places, almost all over the world . I want to thank everyone for their unwavering support, especially the Sao Paulo fans who have always stood by me since my return and throughout this difficult time," the former Brazilian midfielder added.
Last November, Oscar unexpectedly collapsed during a training session with Sao Paulo and had to be rushed to the hospital. After examination, he was diagnosed with vagal syncope, a condition affecting heart rate and blood pressure that can cause sudden loss of consciousness. Despite his efforts to return to the pitch, his health problems prevented Oscar from continuing to play professionally.
Returning to Sao Paulo, his childhood club, after eight years playing in China, Oscar hoped to write a beautiful ending to his career. However, he only managed 21 appearances before being forced to retire. In his farewell message, Oscar expressed regret at not being able to contribute more, while affirming his continued support for the team as a fan.
