At 2 PM on September 23rd, the Ballon d'Or awards ceremony took place at the Chatelet Theatre in Paris. Legendary Ronaldinho appeared as a guest and announced Ousmane Dembele as the winner of the most important award category.
The striker, born in 1997, became the second PSG player in history, after Lionel Messi, to win the Ballon d'Or, and the sixth French player to receive the award, following Michel Platini, Raymond Kopa, Zinedine Zidane, Jean-Pierre Papin, and Karim Benzema.

In the Kopa Trophy category for the best U21 player, Lamine Yamal was honored again, becoming the first player to win this award for two consecutive years.
In the last five years, four Barcelona players have won this individual award: Pedri, Gavi, and Yamal (twice). The only player to prevent Barca players from achieving this five-year streak is Jude Bellingham.
Yamal has a chance to win two awards at this year's gala. |
In the category for best men's team coach, it was no surprise that Luis Enrique was honored. The Spanish coach led PSG to a five-trophy haul last season, including securing the club's first-ever Champions League title.
Another individual who contributed to PSG's European Championship victory, Gianluigi Donnarumma, appeared to receive the Best Goalkeeper award. After a stellar season, the 1999-born star left Paris to join Manchester City. The Italian international immediately proved his class in crucial matches against Manchester United and Arsenal.
With 54 goals in the 2024/25 season, Viktor Gyokeres received the Gerd Muller Trophy for the best male goalscorer. Last season, the Swedish striker had a stellar season with Sporting Lisbon, boasting a goal-scoring rate of 28.1%.

In the Men's Club of the Year category, PSG beat a host of strong contenders including Barcelona, Botafogo, and Liverpool. The stars of the Ligue 1 champions were unable to attend the gala due to a match against Marseille at 1 AM. President Nasser Al-Khelaifi represented them to receive the award.
At the end of the gala, legend Andres Iniesta appeared to present the Women's Ballon d'Or to Aitana Bonmati, Barcelona's star midfielder. This is the third consecutive year that the Spanish star has won this prestigious individual award.
