Carrick's impressive start wasn't enough to convince his former teammate. |
Manchester United are facing a crucial decision regarding their long-term head coach, and Paul Scholes has offered his clear opinion.
According to the former English midfielder, Carlo Ancelotti is the most suitable name to lead the team at Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick took over Manchester United after Ruben Amorim left the job earlier this year. To date, he has won 6 and drawn 1 of his first 7 Premier League matches, a record among the best in the league's history for an early season. This has propelled Manchester United to third place and given them a significant advantage in the race for the top 5.
Scholes admitted the changes under Carrick were "incredible," but he still questioned his former teammate's experience. "Can Carrick help Manchester United win the Premier League? I'm not sure," Scholes said on the podcast The Good, The Bad & The Football .
According to Scholes, the issue isn't just short-term success, but long-term vision. Manchester United needs a manager capable of winning major titles. He sees Ancelotti, currently managing the Brazilian national team, as the "perfect solution." The Italian coach has won titles in England, Italy, Spain, France, and Germany, along with five Champions League titles.
"Ancelotti instills confidence in the players. He has a winning experience," Scholes commented. However, he also acknowledged that age might be the only obstacle.
Carrick previously managed Middlesbrough before returning to MU. He is highly regarded for his dressing room management skills, but Scholes emphasized that MU must clearly define whether they need a tactical strategist or an experienced men's manager.
The final decision will be made in the summer, when MU aims not only to return to the Champions League, but also to compete for the Premier League title in the coming seasons.
