Manager Pep Guardiola (standing) admits Man City no longer have control over their own destiny in the title race - Photo: AP
Pep Guardiola's team traveled to Everton's stadium with the objective of securing a victory.
Everything seemed to be going according to plan when Jeremy Doku opened the scoring in the 43rd minute after a first half in which he completely dominated the game.
However, the second half was a completely different story as the home team Everton staged a strong comeback.
In just 14 minutes (from minute 68 to 81), Man City's net was shaken three times. Substitute Thierno Barry became a nightmare for the visitors' defense with a brace, sandwiched between a powerful header from Jake O'Brien.
Although star striker Erling Haaland quickly narrowed the gap to 2-3 and Jeremy Doku completed his brace with a spectacular goal in injury time to salvage a point, that was not enough to satisfy manager Pep Guardiola.
Speaking after the match on Sky Sports , the Spanish manager could not hide his disappointment with the league standings:
"Before this match, both we and Arsenal had control of our own destiny, but now Man City no longer do. Everything now depends entirely on our opponents. All we can do is fight to the end and see what happens."
Pep also didn't forget to praise Everton's resilience: "They played a truly English game with extremely aggressive pressing. We lost our initiative after the mistake that led to the first goal. Anyway, one point is better than nothing."
With this draw, Man City are now 5 points behind Arsenal (although they still have a game in hand).
However, the advantage now completely lies with the "Gunners". If Arsenal win all three remaining matches, they will officially be crowned champions regardless of the results of Guardiola's team.
