Tran Khanh Linh, the eldest son of Associate Professor Tran Khanh Thanh, shared with Tuoi Tre Online that his father passed away at approximately 8 PM on May 11th at the hospital due to a stroke, at the age of 68.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen The Ky - Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council - was shocked by the consecutive sad news of the deaths of two literary friends with whom he had been closely associated in work and life for several decades.
Associate Professor Tran Khanh Thanh - a meticulous scientist
Mr. Ky said that both Associate Professors Pham Van Tinh and Tran Khanh Thanh studied in the K19 class of the Faculty of Literature at Hanoi University, both enlisted in the army while still students, fought on the northern border, then returned to continue their studies and dedicated their lives to literature and the Vietnamese language.
Both passed away suddenly from the same cause, stroke, on two consecutive days, leaving their families, friends, colleagues, and students shocked and saddened.
Associate Professor Tran Khanh Thanh was a classmate of Mr. Nguyen The Ky in the Faculty of Literature at the University of Hanoi, studying three years ahead of him. After retiring from the Faculty of Literature at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Professor Thanh had the opportunity to work with Mr. Nguyen The Ky at the Central Council for Literary and Artistic Criticism.
Mr. Nguyen The Ky serves as the chairman of the council, while Associate Professor Tran Khanh Thanh is the full-time vice-chairman of the council for the 2021-2026 term.
After the Central Council for Literary and Artistic Criticism merged with the Central Theoretical Council, Associate Professor Tran Khanh Thanh became the deputy head of the Subcommittee on Literary and Artistic Criticism of the Central Theoretical Council.
Mr. Ky assessed Associate Professor Tran Khanh Thanh as a serious, careful, and dedicated scientist who has made many contributions to the training of literature students over the years and has greatly assisted the theoretical and critical work of the Central Council for Literary and Artistic Criticism.
During the recent merger of the Central Council for Literary and Artistic Criticism into the Central Theoretical Council, Associate Professor Tran Khanh Thanh played a major role in "successfully guiding the council's ship to its new harbor, a complete and successful migration."
Associate Professor Tran Khanh Thanh also left behind many valuable works on literary and artistic criticism.

Associate Professor Dr. Doan Le Giang assessed Associate Professor Tran Khanh Thanh as a profound and progressive literary theorist; a dedicated and serious teacher.

To his students, Associate Professor Tran Khanh Thanh is "a teacher with an iron will and an artistic soul."
Associate Professor Tran Khanh Thanh was born in 1957 in Nghe An province.
In 1974, he studied literature at Hanoi University.
In 1980, he, along with 400 lecturers and students from the then-University of Hanoi, enlisted in the army and fought in Regiment 877, Ha Tuyen Military Command, defending the border of Meo Vac and Dong Van districts ( Ha Giang ).
He was discharged from the army in 1983 and returned to work, teaching in the literature department.
After retiring, he joined the Central Council for Literary and Artistic Criticism.
