Chanathip was fouled brutally from behind.

Towards the end of the match at the Buriram stadium, Mohanad Ali of Iraq lunged and kicked Chanathip hard in the back, causing "Thai Messi" to fall to the ground and be immediately taken off by the medical team. The referee did not hesitate to show Ali a red card and send him off.

The incident didn't end there, as Ali's play ignited chaos on the field. Supachok Sarachat reacted aggressively, clashing and fighting with Iraqi players, escalating tensions. Players from both teams and coaching staff had to intervene.

After the match, Chanathip angrily stated: "In my career, I've never suffered such a strong collision. Luckily, it was only a muscle injury, not affecting any ligaments, but I need a more thorough check-up. I was very angry at the time. This is a situation that shouldn't have happened on the field."

Thai fans expressed outrage on social media, deeming it unsportsmanlike conduct that undermined the spirit of beautiful football. They flooded Ali's Instagram and other social media platforms, leaving a barrage of critical comments. Many of his posts had to have comments disabled.

The situation sparked a brawl on the field.

Thailand's coach Masatada Ishii also criticized his opponent: "That was a very rough tackle, lacking sportsmanship. A professional player shouldn't behave like that."

After the match, the Iraqi players were seen approaching Chanathip to apologize. However, this gesture failed to appease the anger of Thai fans.

In the 51st King's Cup final, Chanathip came on in the second half replacing Parames. In the 67th minute, Supachok's shot forced the Iraqi goalkeeper to parry, Charoensak scored on the rebound, but VAR ruled it offside, so the goal was disallowed.

In the 75th minute, Ali rose high to head the ball into Patiwat's net, scoring the only goal of the match and helping Iraq win the King's Cup for the second consecutive time.
