Hamas delegation visits Russia

RIA Novosti news agency quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova at a regular press conference on October 26 as saying that a Hamas delegation is visiting Russia. However, she did not provide further details regarding the visit.

The Hamas delegation's visit comes as the conflict with Israel prepares to enter its fourth week and continues to escalate.

Moscow has repeatedly said that the current crisis in the Middle East is due to the failure of US diplomacy. Russia calls on Israel and Hamas to cease fire to resume negotiations and seek a peaceful solution.

However, a Russian draft resolution on ending the conflict in the Gaza Strip failed to be adopted at the United Nations Security Council on October 25. A draft resolution proposed by the US was also vetoed.

The Israel-Hamas conflict has killed about 8,000 people in the Gaza Strip and Israel. However, the fighting shows no signs of abating. Israel has announced that it will pursue a ground offensive in Gaza.

Israeli tanks and bulldozers carried out a lightning raid on the Gaza Strip on the night of October 25 and early morning of October 26.

"Through the raid, we eliminated enemy fighters, neutralized threats, dismantled explosives, neutralized ambushes to facilitate the next stages of combat by ground forces," said Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari.
