The French Ministry of Defense said today, March 28.3, that French authorities had discovered a fake website, with content recruiting volunteers to join the war in Ukraine.
A government source told AFP that the page has now been taken down by French agencies, but he did not provide any further information.
Before being suspended, the above website wrote that 200.000 Frenchmen were invited to "enlist in Ukraine", with priority given to immigrants.
After checking, the French Ministry of Defense further discovered that the link to this website was posted on social network X (formerly Twitter). "This is a fake page of the government," the Ministry emphasized.
While not naming any suspects behind the incident, an anonymous government official accused the website of bearing "signs of an effort from Russia or pro-Russian groups".
According to this person, it may be part of a false information campaign to slander France as preparing to send troops to support its ally Ukraine.
The official added that the website also had a number of posts with false content, including images of French army convoys moving towards the Ukrainian border.
There is currently no information about Russia's reaction to the above official's statement. Previously, Ukrinform news agency also warned about two fake videos claiming that France was sending troops to Ukraine.
According to AFP, the French Ministry of Defense and government cyber units are still investigating the incident.
