For localities with strengths in coastal and island tourism like Van Don, developing smart tourism not only helps expand market access and promote the destination's image but also contributes to solving problems related to tourist management, ensuring security and safety, protecting the environment, and promoting sustainable development. Accommodation establishments and tourism service businesses in Van Don are also gradually applying technology in management and operation, such as online booking systems, cashless payments, and service feedback via digital platforms, contributing to improving service quality and professionalism.

The deployment of digital platforms in tourism management, the digitization of destinations, the application of technology at major resorts such as Sonasea Van Don and Wyndham Garden, the development of the Quan Lan - Minh Chau smart island model, and the installation of surveillance camera systems at passenger ports and key areas demonstrate consistency in the province's direction and management, ensuring that digital transformation is not scattered but in-depth, linked to the requirements of sustainable development.

Quan Lan - Minh Chau Island is one of Van Don's typical destinations, boasting pristine natural landscapes, beautiful beaches, a rich ecosystem, and unique cultural values. In the process of tourism development, the locality has gradually implemented digital technology solutions, aiming to build a "smart island" model, linking tourism development with modern management and environmental protection. Many tourism services on the island have been digitized, such as booking accommodations, tours, cashless payments, and searching for destination information via QR codes and online platforms.

Several tourist attractions and public beaches have implemented digital map systems, providing information through images and digitized content, helping visitors proactively explore and enhance their sightseeing experience.

The Ao Tien International Passenger Port is a crucial link in the chain of marine and island tourism activities in the Van Don Special Economic Zone, especially for transporting passengers to the islands. To improve management efficiency and ensure the safety of tourists, the local authorities have focused on investing in a surveillance camera system and digital technology solutions at the passenger port area.

The camera system is connected to the control center, allowing for continuous monitoring of security, order, passenger and vehicle traffic. Through the collected data, authorities can promptly regulate transportation activities and prevent risks, especially during peak tourist seasons. The application of technology in passenger port management not only contributes to the modernization of state management but also creates an image of a safe, civilized, and professional destination, meeting the requirements of smart tourism development. The application of digital technology in management, operation, and service provision has created a modern and convenient tourism experience, meeting the needs of high-end customers and contributing to enhancing the tourism status of Van Don.

Thanks to these solutions, in 2025, Van Don welcomed more than 2.3 million tourists, an increase of 111% compared to the target, an increase of 128% compared to the same period, and revenue reached 3,719 billion VND, an increase of 31% compared to the same period.

In 2026, the Van Don Special Economic Zone will continue to develop modern tourism services, increasingly asserting its leading and pivotal role in economic development. Simultaneously, it will effectively implement the Resolution on Tourism Development in the Special Economic Zone until 2030, with a vision to 2045, supporting investors in implementing high-quality tourism service projects, building and developing smart tourism based on digital technology and data, providing information, promoting destinations, and developing virtual tourism to increase the effectiveness of promotion and destination development. In 2026, Van Don aims to welcome 2.5 million visitors and generate revenue exceeding 4,000 billion VND.

Developing smart tourism in Van Don is a concrete and vibrant step in realizing the Party's resolutions, making a significant contribution to the goal of building Quang Ninh into a model province, leading the country in innovating growth models and developing the digital economy, in which tourism plays a leading, sustainable, and impactful role.
