Many effective economic models
In mid-December, a delegation from the People's Committee of Giong Rieng commune visited exemplary agricultural production models, conducting on-site surveys, listening to aspirations, and encouraging the local people. The delegation stopped at the Dong Xanh Agricultural Cooperative, where 39 members are cultivating over 43 hectares of ST25 rice using organic farming methods for the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop. Currently, the rice plants are over 60 days old, growing well, with few pests and diseases, promising a successful harvest. The Director of the Dong Xanh Cooperative, Huynh Van Tu, stated: “Organic farming is more laborious, but the rice is healthier, the quality is higher, and the selling price is better. This is a sustainable direction, contributing to elevating the quality of our local rice and increasing income for the people.”

Leaving the rice fields, the delegation continued their visit to the fruit orchard of Mr. Vo Van Kien, residing in Nam Chien hamlet. From over 4.5 hectares of low-lying land, he transformed it into an orchard, planting more than 2,500 green pomelo, Thai jackfruit, and durian trees; combining this with fish farming in the pond and raising chickens and ducks around the orchard, creating a closed-loop production model that saves costs. Recalling the early days of his business, Mr. Kien said: “The land was low-lying and frequently flooded. To plant trees, I had to build raised beds, construct embankments, and improve the land piece by piece. Thanks to the guidance of the commune officials, I gained more knowledge and boldly invested in a more systematic way.” He utilizes rice straw as organic fertilizer, uses pond water to irrigate the orchard, and feeds spoiled fruit to the fish, achieving both economic efficiency and environmental friendliness.

Thanks to its flexible approach, the model generates a profit of approximately 500-600 million VND per year. Jackfruit is purchased by traders at 20,000 VND/kg; pomelo at 25,000-30,000 VND/kg, and can reach up to 45,000 VND/kg during Tet (Lunar New Year)... Traders come directly to the orchards to buy the fruit, providing a stable income and demonstrating the effectiveness of diversified orchard farming.

The cucumber farming association in Cay Trom hamlet has 17 members cultivating over 15 acres of land. The households simultaneously planted their crops, and after about 27 days, the cucumbers began to be harvested. Mr. Cao Van Huong, a member of the association, said: “Cucumbers are grown year-round. This season, despite the hot weather and pests, the price remains stable at around 11,000 VND/kg. We harvest over 200kg each day, helping to stabilize my family's life.”
These economic models demonstrate the economic vitality of Giồng Riềng commune, spreading from rice paddies and gardens to every rural family. Beyond individual households, the socio-economic picture of the commune in 2025 is projected to achieve positive results. The total value of production in the area is expected to reach 4,881 billion VND, with agriculture, forestry, and fisheries continuing to play a leading role. Rice production is projected at over 140,000 tons, vegetable crops planted on over 2,506 hectares, and fisheries production exceeding 30,000 tons. The trade and service sector is experiencing stable growth, with total retail sales of goods and services reaching 5,926 billion VND.
Alongside economic development, the commune maintains all 19 criteria for new rural development, continues to implement infrastructure projects, urban beautification, resource and environmental management, and proactively prevents and mitigates natural disasters, contributing to improving the quality of life for its people. Vo Van Banh, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Giong Rieng commune, said: “The effective economic models we see today are the result of the people's efforts and the government's support. In the future, the commune will continue to support farmers in accessing capital, science , and technology, expanding markets, and aiming for sustainable agricultural development, improving people's income and living standards. From simple harvests, Giong Rieng is continuing its journey of self-improvement on this heroic land.”
