Agriculture – the backbone of the economy in the island district – continues to grow under favorable conditions. Rice and glutinous rice prices are relatively high, yields are guaranteed, and farmers' incomes and living standards have improved. From the winter-spring crop, rice and glutinous rice production in the district achieved a yield of 7.53 tons/ha (0.13 tons/ha higher than the same period last year). Farmers are delighted with the bumper harvest and good prices; 1,814 hectares are participating in contract farming and consumption agreements.
In addition, the planted area of cash crops has increased compared to the plan, mainly water spinach for seeds, white corn, sweet potatoes, and vegetable soybeans… Of which, the area of vegetable soybeans planted in Phu Xuan commune is 230 hectares, with 159.1 hectares already planted and 100% of the contracted area purchased. The agricultural sector has coordinated well with localities to manage irrigation, drainage, and prevent and control natural disasters and diseases, ensuring stable production.
Coordinate with religious organizations to implement the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households.
The district's commitment to developing its agricultural economy is also focused on the "Development of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission specialized rice cultivation linked to green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030" project, aiming to improve productivity and profits for farmers involved in rice and glutinous rice cultivation. Throughout each season, district leaders and the agricultural sector maintain regular field visits, exchanges, and listen to the opinions and concerns of farmers to resolve difficulties and obstacles.
Simultaneously, relevant sectors and localities coordinated to promote awareness of the model, its benefits, and the examples from pioneering households that have made changes, as well as pilot models, in order to encourage the remaining farmers to show interest and participate in the model. For example, in the autumn-winter season, Hiep Xuong commune had 150 participants, and 10 households participating in the project received awards. In the winter-spring season, Phu Tan district implemented 14 models in 12 communes and towns, covering an area of 178 hectares. Of these, the province supported the implementation of 3 models, covering 45 hectares; and the district supported the implementation of 11 models, covering 133 hectares.
The District People's Committee assessed that, from the beginning of the year until now, budget revenue has achieved quite good results; the management and implementation of investment and construction projects have continued to be proactive; and the preparation, adjustment, and updating of planning have been implemented promptly. Simultaneously, social welfare continues to be given attention and implemented promptly, ensuring that the right beneficiaries receive the right benefits; and public health care has been strengthened. Strict adherence to regulations on preventing and combating corruption, saving, and preventing waste has been maintained; national defense and security have been upheld… The Standing Committee of the District People's Committee regularly inspects key projects, the progress of public investment disbursement; the situation of units working in the police sector after restructuring; disease prevention and control in schools; and disaster prevention and control to protect production and people's lives… In 2025, the district will have 66 projects with a total public investment capital of over 392 billion VND. Of which, central government budget capital is over 134 billion VND (1 project). The National Target Program for New Rural Development has allocated nearly 32.9 billion VND (for 35 projects); the remaining projects are managed using provincial and district budget funds.
Improve work efficiency and actively serve the people.
In developing the rate of people participating in health insurance, the district People's Committee leadership has directed and urged localities to implement specific solutions to overcome existing difficulties. As a result, to date, the entire district has 156,582 participants, reaching 82.92% of the population; to achieve the health insurance coverage target of 95.08% by 2025, an additional 22,972 people need to be enrolled.
In particular, the task of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the district has been implemented decisively. The district has 207 households, of which 42 are in Group 1 (households of people with meritorious services to the revolution) and the rest are in Group 2 (poor and near-poor households). Six localities have completed the task, including Phu My town and the communes of Phu Lam, Phu An, Phu Tho, Tan Hoa, and Binh Thanh Dong. The goal is to complete 100% of the planned houses by June 2025.
The Party committees and authorities at all levels in Phu Tan district are focusing on leading and directing the continued successful implementation of agricultural, livestock, and fisheries production plans. Alongside emulation projects, each sector and locality is carrying out activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1), linked with urban beautification and creating a pleasant environment in villages and hamlets. They are also promoting and mobilizing support among cadres, Party members, and the people for new Party policies, especially the merger of commune-level and provincial-level administrative units, and the elimination of district-level government...
