Summer is a time for students to rest after a school year, hone their skills, nurture their talents, and prepare for the new school year. From urban to rural areas, parents proactively create summer plans that suit their children's interests and family finances .
With his daughter about to enter third grade, Mr. Huynh Tuan Kiet, residing in Long Chau ward, decided to enroll her in free communication, life skills, and drawing classes at the Nguyen Dinh Chieu Library in Vinh Long . Mr. Kiet shared that the public speaking class helped his daughter become more confident in communication, while the drawing class perfectly suited her interests.
The family aims to provide their child with necessary and enjoyable learning content, avoiding excessive academic pressure. His daughter continues to study English at a language center to support her future studies. Summer learning should help children address weaknesses and develop talents while still ensuring they get proper rest.

Following this approach, Ms. Lieu Thi Phuong Khanh, residing in Tam Binh commune, whose son is about to enter 8th grade, chose to encourage him to review his knowledge at home. To limit his use of electronic devices such as phones and televisions, she enrolled him in English classes and football and badminton clubs. Ms. Phuong Khanh said that sports activities help her son develop physically, reduce his gaming time, make new friends, and become more outgoing.
Summer activities are organized to enhance knowledge, help students improve their health and communication skills, and form positive habits. Many parents guide their children to help with household chores according to their age. Younger children learn to sweep the house and receive encouragement from their parents. Older children are introduced to simple cooking skills to take care of themselves when their parents are away.
For families facing financial difficulties, free summer classes become a lifeline, providing students with opportunities for healthy learning and recreation. For many years, Mr. Nguyen Khanh, a teacher at Huu Thanh B Primary School in Vinh Xuan commune, has maintained a free summer class to support children. In the summer of 2026, his group, consisting of 7 teachers, 2 Buddhist monks, and 1 retired teacher, participated in teaching.
The group opened two classes in Hoa Binh and Tra Con communes with 85 elementary school students participating. Students attend three sessions per week. The curriculum is designed to be experiential, focusing on life skills and talent development such as drowning prevention, abuse prevention, drawing, singing, English, and calligraphy.
Teacher Khánh collaborated with swimming instructors to organize free swimming lessons for students. In Trà Côn commune, where a large Khmer population lives, two monks and one retired Khmer teacher directly taught Khmer language to students. Teacher Khánh hoped that students would have a well-planned summer break, access subjects they hadn't had the opportunity to learn before, and become more confident and outgoing.
For students who don't have the means to attend extra classes or talent development programs, families create their own spaces for play and learning at home. Nguyen Diem Loc, a student preparing to enter 5th grade at My Thanh Trung A Primary School in Tam Binh commune, spends her summer vacation playing with her siblings. Diem Loc is tutored by her older sister, who is preparing to enter 11th grade. Her parents bought her a life jacket, and her father personally teaches her to swim in the river near their house.
A meaningful summer isn't about a packed school schedule, but about balancing learning, play, physical activity, and developing life skills. Parental support and attentive listening help students have a productive break, grow, and confidently enter the new school year.
Many free summer classes are available at the Nguyen Dinh Chieu Library in Vinh Long.
In the summer of 2026, the Nguyen Dinh Chieu Library in Vinh Long organized several free classes for students in the area. These classes included illustrating book content, designing book covers through calligraphy, practicing public speaking skills, and learning how to use Canva software to design educational materials. This was a valuable platform to help students develop their artistic talents, improve their technological skills, and build confidence in communication.
