These days, strolling along some bustling commercial streets in the province's urban areas such as Le Loi Street (Dong Kinh Ward), Le Lai Street, and Luong Van Tri Street (Ky Lua Ward)... we easily spot souvenir and gift shops displaying a wide variety of Tet decorations. According to our reporter's observations, this year's Tet decorations have been improved in terms of design and materials, giving customers more choices.
Mr. Bach Xuan Phong, owner of Oanh Phong gift shop on Luong Van Tri Street, Ky Lua Ward, said: "The period leading up to the Lunar New Year is the peak business season for our shop. Therefore, to better meet the needs of the people, from the beginning of December in the lunar calendar, the shop has started importing and displaying Tet decorations with a variety of types such as lanterns, red firecracker strings, couplets, etc. Among them, lanterns, flashing lights, couplets, decorative bamboo screens, and stickers printed with images of horses – the zodiac animal of 2026 – are attracting a lot of customer interest and choices. Most of these products are imported from domestic factories and are very reasonably priced, such as stickers ranging from 30,000 to 80,000 VND; couplets ranging from 80,000 to 220,000 VND (depending on the design and material)." Modern flashing lanterns are now priced about 5 to 10% lower than last year, ranging from only 170,000 to 350,000 VND per piece…
Similar to Oanh Phong store, Long Linh gift shop on Le Loi Street, Dong Kinh Ward, is also bustling with shoppers these days. Mr. Hoang Bao Chau, the owner, said: Besides importing traditional decorative items that have become familiar to customers, the shop also creates unique Tet decorations, handcrafted such as bamboo trays, bamboo screens, paper fans… combined with models of banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes), peach blossoms, firecrackers, greetings, and carp figures made of foam and voile… to meet the current trend of decorating in a simple, rustic style, reminiscent of Tet of the past.
Not only at the two stores mentioned above, but according to a survey conducted by reporters at several other stores, the market for Tet decorations this year is very diverse and abundant. In particular, domestically produced Tet decorations account for up to 80%.
In addition, to suit customer preferences, products have been improved and innovated in terms of design, variety, and materials. Prices of basic goods remain stable, with little fluctuation compared to the previous year. In fact, some items even have slightly lower prices than last year.
In parallel with direct sales, to best serve customer needs and increase competitiveness in the market, many stores selling Tet decorations also combine online sales through social media platforms such as Facebook, Zalo, etc.; providing decoration rental services or accepting custom decoration orders from customers.
Ms. Vu Thi Bich from Ky Lua ward said: "Every Tet holiday, my family buys some decorations to refresh our home and create a warmer, more festive atmosphere. This year, I prioritize choosing decorations in the style of traditional Tet, such as bamboo trays, bamboo screens, and couplets, to create a sense of closeness, simplicity, and evoke many memories of Tet in the past. Besides, I find that products made from bamboo, paper, and fabric are environmentally friendly and can be reused for many years, so I feel quite reassured in my choice."
Home decoration has long been an indispensable part of people's daily lives during the Lunar New Year. Decorations not only beautify living spaces but also reflect thoughtful preparation and the family's wish for a prosperous and fulfilling new year.
