Mother Huyen was born into a revolutionary family in Thach Dong commune (now Tran Phu ward, Ha Tinh ), the daughter of a pre-revolutionary cadre who died in 1938. When she grew up and got married, mother Huyen gave birth to 8 children, of which two sons sacrificed their lives for the Fatherland while fighting with their comrades to protect the border and carry out international duties in Cambodia, martyr Nguyen Van Duong and martyr Nguyen Van Cat. In the report, mother Huyen could not hold back her tears when mentioning her deceased children: "I love you, I love you so much. How can I forget you after giving birth? Until now, I still imagine you two, I have never forgotten you." Overcoming the storm, the belief that "the children are gone but the Fatherland remains" gave her the motivation to strive to contribute and become the support of the family.
Currently, Huyen’s mother lives in a small house in Tran Phu ward, with her youngest son and his wife. Despite her advanced age, she still goes to the countryside market every day to sell rice rolls. Huyen’s mother’s presence is a vivid symbol of the image of Vietnamese women in both wartime and peacetime: loyal to the Fatherland and full of determination in everyday life.
