Taking advantage of favorable weather, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh's family in Phu An 1 village, Phu Nhuan commune, Bao Thang district, is focusing on harvesting their spring tea crop (pictured above). Without needing many workers, the entire tea harvesting process has been mechanized by his family. On average, a machine harvest can yield 500-600 kg of fresh tea buds per day, equivalent to the work of about 15 manual laborers. "Between hand harvesting and machine harvesting, machine harvesting is more productive, the tea plantations have a beautiful shape, and productivity increases. Although it's done only once a month, the yield is much higher," Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh said.

This year, due to the prolonged cold weather, the yield of spring tea has been somewhat affected. However, the quality of fresh tea buds remains assured, and the purchase price is stable at 6,000 - 7,000 VND/kg, so farmers are quite reassured. "This year's spring tea crop has less rain, more sunshine, and drought, so it's not as good as in previous years. The tea buds aren't as dense, but the factory is still buying spring tea regularly," shared Ms. Lu Thi Ty, from Nhuan 1 village, Phu Nhuan commune, Bao Thang district.

In 2024, Phu Nhuan supplied nearly 1,600 tons of fresh tea leaves to processing plants, generating revenue of over 10 billion VND.

Currently, Phu Nhuan commune has nearly 180 hectares of tea plantations, mainly for commercial purposes. In 2024, Phu Nhuan supplied nearly 1,600 tons of fresh tea leaves to processing factories, generating revenue of over 10 billion VND. Along with applying scientific and technical advancements and innovating farming methods, the locality is also focusing on building organic tea growing areas and establishing linkages to find markets for the people's products. "The district is also assisting in forming cooperatives and helping households cultivate tea organically. We have also developed plans and strategies with the goal of further improving tea quality and value," said Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Nhuan commune, Bao Thang district.

Bao Thang district has nearly 510 hectares of tea plantations, with an average yield of over 88 quintals/hectare, and this year's production is estimated at nearly 4,500 tons. Tea continues to affirm its position as one of the key crops, helping farmers increase their income and contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.
