PlayStation Network experiences global outage.

According to IGN , the PlayStation Network (PSN) was down from the evening of February 7th, affecting users worldwide who were unable to play online games or access certain digital titles. The outage lasted for over 14 hours, but Sony has yet to provide an official response beyond a brief statement confirming the service was experiencing problems.

The PlayStation Network service is experiencing serious issues, affecting many features such as account management and online gaming.

Some users were able to log back in and access the PlayStation Store, but most online games, including the open beta of Monster Hunter Wilds , remained unusable. According to the tracking site DownDetector, the outage began at 6:14 PM European time on February 7th, with over 70,000 reports within 30 minutes.

This incident is reminiscent of the 21-day outage in 2011, when hackers attacked Sony's systems, exposing the personal information of 77 million accounts. At that time, Sony had to compensate with the "Welcome Back" program, offering users a free month of PlayStation Plus and two free games. There is currently no evidence to suggest this incident was caused by a cyberattack, but the prolonged outage and Sony's lack of transparency are causing concern.

In addition to preventing online gaming, the issue also affected digital games that require license authentication via the PSN network. PlayStation Portal owners were also severely impacted, as the device requires a network connection to stream games from the PS5 or the cloud. Some PC gamers also reported being unable to play PS5 titles ported to the platform, even though Sony had previously removed the PSN login requirement on PCs in late January.

Sony's announcement on social media platform X acknowledged the issue but provided no further details, sparking outrage in the community with a high volume of comments and shares.

Sony has yet to respond to requests for clarification on the cause of the issue. The most recent official announcement, posted on the Ask PlayStation on X (Twitter) account on the evening of February 7th, simply confirmed that the company "has received reports of the problem" without providing further details.

It remains unclear when PSN will be fully operational again. Users are hoping Sony will provide a clear explanation and offer a satisfactory solution if the issue persists.
