In the early hours of April 30th, PSG will travel to London for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final. However, controversies surrounding the ticket distribution by the home team, Arsenal, have left the French champions dissatisfied.
Specifically, PSG expressed their dissatisfaction at being allocated only 2,500 tickets at the Emirates Stadium. This is a significantly smaller number compared to the 3,000 tickets they received in the group stage match between the two teams last October.
Typically, UEFA has an "unwritten rule" that clubs must reserve 5% of their stadium capacity for away fans in the Champions League. However, the 2,500 tickets that Arsenal "generously" allocated to PSG only amount to about 4%, a significant shortfall compared to UEFA's standard.
PSG clearly expressed their displeasure, requesting an additional 500 tickets from Arsenal, but this was immediately rejected by the home team.
Arsenal explained that the decision stemmed from security concerns regarding the 3,000 away fans. This is a particularly important consideration, given that the London Marathon is taking place just two days before the match.
However, PSG did not accept this reason and argued that Arsenal's actions went against the spirit of "fair play".
According to reports, the French team has officially filed a complaint with UEFA hoping to reclaim the full number of tickets they are entitled to under the regulations.
This isn't the first time Arsenal have been in trouble over ticket allocation. Back in January, they were accused of violating FA Cup rules in their clash with Manchester United, when they only allocated 8,000 tickets to the Red Devils, even though the club was entitled to 9,000.
