Compared to previous years, the 2023-2024 winter-spring rice crop in Quang Ngai has yielded both a good harvest and good prices.
In recent days, farmers in Quang Ngai have been urgently harvesting the 2023-2024 Winter-Spring rice crop. This season, despite facing disadvantages due to large areas being damaged by rats, the farmers are very happy because the rice crop is bountiful and the prices are good.

In Dong Yen 2 village ( Binh Duong commune, Binh Son district), farmers are mobilizing all available family members to harvest rice, dry it, and sell it to traders. Combine harvesters are also operating at full capacity to ensure they can harvest according to the farmers' registered schedules.
“This year, my family cultivated 2 sao (500m2 each), and not only did we achieve high yields, but the quality of the rice this season is also very good, with large, firm, and uniform grains. On average, the rice yield here is over 65 quintals/hectare, and in some places even higher,” shared Ms. Pham Thi Mai (Dong Yen 2 village).
According to many farmers, this winter-spring rice crop, thanks to favorable weather conditions, has yielded higher productivity in many fields compared to the same period last year.

The 2023-2024 winter-spring rice crop had a fairly high yield.
In particular, traders are currently buying each quintal of rice at around 900,000 VND, about 100,000 VND/quintal higher than the same rice crop in 2023, which has made rice farmers very happy.
“In previous rice seasons, we often faced the situation of bumper harvests but low prices, or high prices but poor harvests. In addition, the high prices of supplies and fertilizers worried farmers about losses. But this winter-spring season has been both bountiful and profitable, so everyone is happy and has more motivation to stay in the fields and produce,” said Mr. Huynh Trung (Nghia Trung commune, Tu Nghia district).
According to a report by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), in the 2023-2024 Winter-Spring crop season, farmers in Quang Ngai sowed nearly 37,900 hectares of rice; of which more than 3,780 hectares of early rice have been harvested, over 29,800 hectares of main-season rice are being harvested, and more than 4,600 hectares of late-season rice are in the ripening to mature stage. It is estimated that the early rice crop will yield approximately 56-57 quintals/hectare, while the main-season rice crop will yield approximately 63-64 quintals/hectare.

Short-duration rice varieties such as Bac Thinh, Thien Huong 6, MT10... are encouraged for use by authorities in Quang Ngai because they yield high productivity and have a delicious aroma, making them popular in the market.
To achieve these results, right from the beginning of the season, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development proactively advised and guided localities and farmers in organizing winter-spring crop production according to the correct seasonal schedule, crop structure, and proper care.
In particular, they promptly advised the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee to allocate funds to support rat control efforts. Thanks to this, farmers achieved success in the Winter-Spring crop season.

Quang Ngai province is striving to harvest the entire area of the 2023-2024 Winter-Spring rice crop by April 25th.
According to Nguyen Quang Trung, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ngai province, the provincial agricultural sector is currently directing localities and production units to mobilize manpower and machinery to accelerate the harvesting of the winter-spring rice crop, striving to complete the harvest of the entire area by April 25th.
