Quang Ninh meets the criteria for a Type I urban area.

Being recognized as a Type I urban area lays the foundation for Quang Ninh to elevate its development, aiming to become a centrally-governed city.

On June 26th, the Minister of Construction signed Decision No. 1026/QD-BXD recognizing Quang Ninh province as meeting the criteria for a Type I urban area. According to the decision, the recognized area encompasses the entire administrative boundary of Quang Ninh province, with a natural area of ​​6,231.27 km² and a projected population of 1,523,400 people by 2025.

The decision was issued based on legal regulations on urban planning and classification; the Resolution of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on urban classification; and also based on the assessment results of the inter-ministerial appraisal council on the proposal to recognize Quang Ninh province as a Type I urban area submitted by the Provincial People's Committee.
