The right to play

- Just before the summer holidays, a product suddenly became a bestseller on online marketplaces. The description read: "Natural product, no chemical treatment; core diameter 0.7cm - 1cm; average length 70-80cm." And this item sold like hotcakes, with thousands of orders already fulfilled. Its full name is rattan cane!

- It sounds funny already. Of course, buyers will have other purposes besides violence against children. For example, they might want a humorous symbol to evoke memories of the past, or buy a piece of rattan to use for flower arrangements or crafts. E-commerce platforms certainly wouldn't allow the sale of violent products.

- Society has changed, so old notions no longer exist. In modern urban areas, violence is no longer seen in child-rearing. But on the other hand, in many families, the persistent burden on children is the excessive amount of studying. Many parents, wanting their children to be at the top, push them to study until they are exhausted. Others, due to being too busy, confine their children to endless extra classes. And there is a group that, drawing from their own past deprivations, forces their children to study relentlessly.

- That kind of rote learning will inevitably exhaust and depress young children. Learning is always necessary, but it's not everything. The crucial thing that is often overlooked for children is the right to play.
