Will Enzo Fernandez and Valverde form a formidable midfield partnership at Real Madrid? |
According to the Independent, the match against Sunderland on May 24th could be Enzo Fernandez's last appearance for Chelsea. The 25-year-old midfielder has had a difficult time at Stamford Bridge, failing to achieve the success that was expected of him.
During Leroy Rosenior's time managing Chelsea, Enzo Fernandez was often left out of the matchday squad. Although the situation improved somewhat under Calum McFarlane's interim management, the remaining issues haven't been completely resolved. This makes a separation between the two increasingly likely.
Real Madrid currently need to add a quality central midfielder to revitalize their midfield. The Spanish club sees Rodri as their top priority target, but a deal with Manchester City is considered highly unlikely. If they are unable to secure the Spanish international, Enzo Fernandez would be a more suitable option for the Bernabeu side.
Man City are also closely monitoring the situation of the 2022 World Cup winner. The Manchester club will only really push ahead with the deal if Rodri's future changes during the summer transfer window.
One noteworthy detail is that Enzo Maresca, who is widely expected to replace Pep Guardiola at Man City, has a fairly good relationship with Enzo Fernandez. This could give the Premier League side an advantage if the competition with Real Madrid intensifies.
Chelsea are reportedly struggling to recoup the more than £100 million they spent to bring Enzo Fernandez from Benfica. However, the London club understands they still have a chance to recoup a significant fee thanks to interest from two European giants.
