Nhon metro tunnel digging robot

After more than 3 months of construction, the robot has dug 625m of underground metro section Nhon - Hanoi station. The tunnel drilling work is expected to be completed in November 2025.

Regarding the progress of the construction of the Nhon - Hanoi Metro underground stations, in an interview with Giao Thong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Ba Son - Deputy Director of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board said: Tunnel drilling with TBM machines will be carried out from July 30, 2024.

To date, the TBM has drilled 625m, reaching the escape well area, one of the important items of the project.

"We are currently closely following the progress and will complete the tunnel drilling work by November 2025," said Mr. Son.

Robots speed up work to complete the underground metro excavation work of Nhon - Hanoi station.

The underground section of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station line was excavated using a pair of TBMs specially designed for the project, named "Speed" and "Bold". The machines were manufactured by Herrenkecht (Germany), are over 100m long, and weigh about 850 tons.

According to the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board, the tunnel digging speed depends on the surrounding geological properties as well as logistics factors, to minimize the impact on above-ground structures.

Regarding the operation of the elevated section of the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro, Mr. Vu Hong Truong - General Director of Hanoi Railway One Member Co., Ltd. (Hanoi Metro) said: On working days (from Monday to Friday), the number of passengers on the route reaches about 19 thousand passengers; on Saturday and Sunday, it reaches from 12 to 14 thousand passengers.

According to Mr. Truong, this is an encouragement for the team of people directly operating to strive to serve the people better.

This is also pressure from reality, proving the superiority of fast, large-volume transportation, so that we can mobilize all resources in terms of finance, human resources and spirit to speed up the investment progress of Hanoi urban railway lines that have been approved according to the plan.

The Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station urban railway project is invested by the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board, with a length of 12.5km, of which the elevated section (Nhon - Cau Giay) is 8.5km long and the underground section (Cau Giay - Hanoi Railway Station) is 4km long. On August 8, 2024, the elevated section was put into commercial operation, while the underground section is currently under urgent construction to ensure progress and soon put the entire route into synchronous operation.
