Visiting the flower village these days, tourists are drawn to the vibrant carpets of flowers stretching as far as the eye can see. Chrysanthemums, marigolds, Taiwanese chrysanthemums… each type of flower possesses its own unique beauty, contributing to a joyful and warm spring atmosphere. Mr. Doan Huu Bon, who has been involved in flower cultivation in Pho Tho - Ba Bo Flower Village for many years, said that to have beautiful flowers for sale during Tet (Lunar New Year), the preparation process must be very carefully planned, from selecting the right seeds and planting them at the right time to monitoring the weather and pests.

According to statistics, the former Binh Thuy district currently has nearly 300,000 potted ornamental flowers for the Tet market. Of these, Pho Tho - Ba Bo Flower Village (Long Tuyen ward) has nearly 188,000 pots; Thoi An Dong ward has approximately 79,000 pots; and the remaining 15,000 pots are in Binh Thuy ward. The variety of flowers is quite diverse, including Taiwanese chrysanthemums, pompom chrysanthemums, marigolds, dwarf chrysanthemums, lucky bamboo, sunflowers, hanging flowers, etc., meeting customer preferences for this Tet season.

Not only relying on traditional experience, today's flower growers are boldly applying new techniques to production. Many flower gardens use nighttime lighting to lengthen the flowers and adjust their growth time. Mr. To Hong Em, who has been involved in growing Tet flowers for over 8 years, said that nighttime lighting helps extend the growth period, limits early flower bud differentiation, and therefore results in more uniform, larger, and more beautiful flowers. "With the support of technology, farmers are less dependent on the weather and more proactive in managing their flowers for Tet," Mr. Em shared.

Amidst rapid urbanization, Pho Tho - Ba Bo Flower Village continues to steadfastly preserve its traditional craft. The farmers of this village diligently work late into the night and wake early in the morning, meticulously tending to their flower fields, ensuring vibrant blooms year-round, especially during springtime. This perseverance adds a fresh splash of color and creates a highlight in the traditional craft village landscape of Can Tho .

In the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), the flower village is not only bustling with buyers and sellers but also becomes a destination for many locals and tourists who come to visit and take photos. Everyone wants to capture the springtime moments amidst the myriad of flowers, choosing to buy a few potted plants to bring the spirit of spring home. And from Pho Tho - Ba Bo Flower Village, trucks carrying flowers spread out to all corners, bringing the fragrance and colors of Tet to everyone, every home.
