| Mr. Le Van Duoc played the role of the chief pilot. |
The man in question is Mr. Le Van Duoc, currently residing in Auckland, New Zealand. He said that he was originally a fisherman from Vinh Truong - Cua Be fishing village, and left his hometown in 1994 to be with his children. However, since then, he and his wife have made arrangements to return to the village every year to attend the Fishing Festival. Not only is he a visitor, but he also participates as the chief driver of the traditional boat rowing team throughout the festival, because boat rowing is ingrained in his blood and soul; he started participating when he was 30 years old. While abroad, he worked various jobs, but those familiar melodies still resonate, echoing in his heart and soul with longing for his homeland. Every time he participates in singing and performing with the villagers, Mr. Duoc feels young again, like in his youth.
Not only was he the head of the traditional folk singing troupe, but he also actively contributed his time and resources to the village temple ceremonies; participating as the "chief musician" in the traditional opera nights of the temple's ritual singing. This included sitting and beating the drum to encourage the male and female leads of the opera troupe. Hearing the resounding drumbeats echoing throughout the temple grounds, one understands how much the people of Vinh Truong coastal village, like Mr. Duoc, cherish traditional culture. In an era where many forms of entertainment are booming, the temple grounds remain packed with people of all ages watching opera performances from noon until late at night. Not just for one day and one night, the Vinh Truong coastal village performs for four nights and five days straight without rest. Artist Nhu Ngoc – the lead actress of the Phuoc Binh opera troupe – expressed that performing here annually with traditional opera artists like herself is incredibly fulfilling because of the enthusiastic support of the villagers. It is thanks to this that all the folk opera artists are excited and eagerly await the festival to participate.
According to Mr. Pham Long, the chief priest of Truong Dong village temple, the temple was recently renovated and restored by the State at the end of 2025, creating favorable conditions for resuming the Fishing Prayer Ceremony after a three-year hiatus. This is a great joy for the people of Vinh Truong - Cua Be coastal village, expressing their hope for a peaceful and bountiful fishing season.
According to Mr. Truong Ngoc Long, the festival always attracts enthusiastic participation from people inside and outside the village, including those living far from home and overseas Vietnamese, contributing to the vibrant and colorful atmosphere of the festival.
The culture of the coastal village still flows silently in the hearts of the people there, ready to flourish.
