The people of Loc Ha ( Ha Tinh province ) welcome the new year with pride, having achieved the status of a new rural district. From the fields to the sea, the rhythm of year-end labor and production remains steady, making the coastal landscape even more colorful and vibrant.

Spring arrives in the fields.

This spring has been the most beautiful for Mr. and Mrs. Le Viet Huong in Dong Thinh village (Hong Loc commune). Their joy stems from their vast rice paddies, their fruit-filled gardens, and their cozy home. Mr. Le Viet Huong excitedly shared: “This year, we're celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year) more joyfully because the past two harvests yielded 31 tons of rice, enough to last us the whole year, and we earned 210 million dong from sales. Besides the sweat and hard work in the fields, these bountiful harvests are also the result of land transformation. More than a year ago, I boldly leased 4 hectares of barren land in Con Hao, then improved the land, leveled the roads, brought in water, built embankments... to create the good rice paddies and the results we have today.”

Farmers in Hong Loc are taking advantage of the warm, sunny weather to plant their spring crop in 2024.

For Mr. Tran Thanh in Xuan Trieu village (Binh An commune), looking at his 2-hectare rice field with irrigation canals leading directly to the field, internal roads leading right to the plot, and 90% mechanization..., his heart swells with indescribable joy. His family no longer has to rush around to different fields; instead, they focus on one large plot, producing goods commercially, practicing organic farming, and aiming for high-yield harvests with great economic efficiency.

Farmers in Tan Loc are delighted to have been allocated larger plots of land, so they are rushing to improve them in order to plant the spring crop on time.

The "great revolution" in rice cultivation in Hong Loc commune at the end of 2022 brought vitality and freshness to the agricultural landscape of Loc Ha district. With many advantages in farming, golden rice stalks covered 529 hectares of fields, and yields reached 6 tons/ha... This has encouraged other communes to learn from and follow suit. Four months ago, Tan Loc commune allocated 16 billion VND to convert 660 hectares of rice fields for 1,621 households into a single large plot, coupled with the construction of synchronized production infrastructure. Binh An commune also successfully piloted the project on 60 hectares in Xuan Trieu village and has prepared resources to expand it throughout the commune in the near future.

The large fields, after land redistribution, have yielded bountiful harvests.

Mr. Le Hong Co, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Loc Ha district, enthusiastically stated: “Land conversion opens up large plots and fields, improves production infrastructure, strengthens the application of science and technology, introduces mechanization into the fields, and develops production towards a modern and sustainable direction. This is one of the most important goals and tasks in Loc Ha. Three communes in the district have converted 1,249 hectares, thereby creating a foundation to accumulate 1,610 hectares by 2025, reaching 4,000 hectares by 2030 (accounting for 50% of the total area of ​​the district), and contributing to creating a new look and new momentum in the fields.”

“Along with land conversion, the agricultural production picture in Loc Ha over the past year has also shown many bright colors. Thanks to the enthusiastic labor spirit of the people and the close supervision of all levels and sectors, the entire district has planted 8,297 hectares (a 3% increase compared to the previous year), and the food production reached 30,183 tons (a 7% increase compared to the previous year).”

"The development of crop cultivation has created a 'driving force' for the development of livestock farming, with a herd of 10,802 buffaloes and cattle (an increase of 7.3% compared to 2022), a herd of 10,300 pigs (an increase of 2.9% compared to 2022), and a poultry flock maintained at 291,000 birds..." - Mr. Le Hong Co further shared.

Joy from the sea

In spring, the sea around Loc Ha is brimming with life, with fleets of boats rushing out to sea at dusk and returning early in the morning laden with shrimp and fish. The Cua Sot fishing port is always bustling with boats. Joining this lively rhythm, fisherman Nguyen Xuan Long (owner of the boat HT 90149 TS) and 13 crew members from Long Hai village (Thach Kim commune) brave the waves, determined to bring back plenty of seafood for the Lunar New Year celebrations.

The scene at Cua Sot fishing port (Thach Kim district) every morning is bustling with boats coming and going, and buying and selling activity.

In their joy, they proudly consider themselves conquerors of the sea, masters of the ocean, enjoying the pleasure of daily labor, and becoming the source of livelihood for their families and the foundation for building their homeland.

Mr. Long said: “Every month, we regularly go out to sea 13 times on our 210 HP boat. We travel about 25 nautical miles out to sea, working hard for two days and nights to return with over 1 ton of shrimp, fish, squid, crabs, and other valuable seafood. After deducting expenses, each trip earns the fishermen 600-700 thousand VND per person per day, and the boat owner earns 1.5-1.7 million VND per day. This hard work has helped our families have a more comfortable life and a fulfilling Tet holiday.”

The fresh seafood catches from the ocean are a gift to the fishermen of Loc Ha.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen, an official from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Loc Ha district, happily stated: “The love for the sea and responsibility towards life have helped the fleet of over 300 boats and thousands of fishermen in Loc Ha overcome many storms and hardships to bring the gifts of the ocean back to land. Thanks to favorable weather, abundant fishing grounds, diligent fishermen, and the constant attention from all levels and sectors, this year's catch for the entire district reached 2,864 tons of shrimp, fish, squid, crabs, and other mollusks, generating a production value of over 300 billion VND, higher than last year.”

Along the coast, joy has also come to those who dare to think big, dare to act, and boldly invest in aquaculture to exploit potential, leverage advantages, and rise to prosperity. On an area of ​​417 hectares of brackish water, high-tech, recirculating aquaculture, and intensive farming models have been continuously built and put into stable production, helping to minimize disease risks, protect the environment, and increase productivity, yielding a total output of 1,778 tons of shrimp, crab, and various types of fish, and 2,100 tons of mollusks, bringing in hundreds of billions of dong in revenue this year.
