In the early hours of December 7th, Salah was once again benched in Liverpool's 3-3 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road. This was his third consecutive match without a start, after also being left out of the starting lineup in the games against West Ham and Sunderland.
This marks the first time in his Liverpool career that Salah has not started two consecutive Premier League matches. Prior to this, he had started in 53 consecutive games in the league.
Speaking after the match, Salah said: “I can’t believe I had to sit on the bench for 90 minutes. This is the third time, and the first time in my career. I’m very disappointed because I’ve given so many years to the club, especially last season. But now I feel like the club has thrown me under the bus, as if someone wants me to bear all the blame.”

The 32-year-old striker also revealed that his relationship with coach Arne Slot had soured: “I used to have a good relationship with him, but now there’s nothing left. I don’t understand why. It feels like someone doesn’t want me here anymore. The club promised me a lot in the summer, but now I’m sitting on the bench, which means they didn’t keep their word.”
Conversely, manager Slot explained that the decision to bench Salah against Leeds was a tactical one. He told Sky Sports : “It’s never an easy decision because everyone knows how good Salah is. But my responsibility is to choose the best lineup for this match.”
According to Sky Sports , Salah is seriously considering leaving Liverpool as early as January 2026. Saudi Arabian clubs are reportedly ready to roll out the red carpet for the Egyptian star.
