Samsung has achieved something incredible.

Due to limited supply, Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold quickly sold out within minutes of going on sale in South Korea and China, and was subsequently resold at prices many times higher.

The Galaxy Z TriFold, Samsung's first triple-folding phone, has officially gone on sale in China. The retail price for the Timeless Black version with 512GB storage is 19,999 CNY (approximately $2,800 ), while the 1TB version costs 21,999 CNY (approximately $3,080 ).

As soon as it hit the shelves, the product quickly sold out. Currently, Samsung's online store in China is implementing a limited-quantity resale program, starting at 10 AM each day. According to Techweb , supply remains scarce, a situation not seen in a long time for a Samsung phone model in China.

On used goods trading platforms, the Galaxy Z TriFold is experiencing significant price increases. Many speculators are offering the 512GB version at prices almost equal to the 1TB version, more than 1,000 RMB higher than the official retail price.

The Galaxy Z TriFold was officially announced by Samsung on December 1st and went on sale in South Korea 11 days later for approximately $2,400 for the 512GB model. Due to very limited supply, the device sold out within minutes both online and at retail locations, according to Sammobile.

The second batch of Galaxy Z TriFold units also sold out quickly in just 2 minutes on December 17th, faster than the first batch which took 5 minutes. According to BusinessKorea, this batch included only a few hundred units compared to the 700 units in the previous batch, distributed nationwide.

Long lines of people formed before the store opened. All of the restocked inventory was sold out on Samsung's website and major retail chains nationwide before 10:02 AM (Korean time).

Samsung hasn't released official sales figures, but industry estimates suggest it expects to expand supply to around 2,500-5,000 units by early next year, with a long-term target of 10,000 units. For comparison, the company shipped approximately 10 million foldable phones globally in 2024, indicating the Galaxy Z TriFold is being deployed on a completely different scale.

Similar price increases are occurring in secondary markets. On online marketplaces in South Korea, the Galaxy Z TriFold is trading at prices ranging from 4-5.5 million won (approximately $2,700- $3,700 ), which is up to 55% higher than the official retail price. Some sellers even list the device at 10 million won, although it remains unclear whether buyers would actually accept this price.

The Galaxy Z TriFold is Samsung's first triple-folding phone. It features a groundbreaking G-shaped folding design, distinctly different from the S-shaped folding mechanism found on the Huawei Mate XTs.

In terms of core specifications, the device features a 6.5-inch external screen that can expand to a 10-inch internal screen when fully opened, equivalent to a mobile tablet. The Galaxy Z TriFold is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor and a 5,600 mAh battery.

In terms of durability, the Galaxy Z TriFold's hinge is made of titanium, the frame uses high-strength reinforced aluminum, while the back is constructed from ceramic fiberglass. These materials significantly increase the body's rigidity without increasing the overall thickness of the device.

Some of the next markets to launch the Galaxy Z TriFold in December include Singapore, Taiwan, and the UAE. Samsung has confirmed it will sell the foldable model in the US in Q1 2026, but no specific date has been given.
