For many years, users who chose the standard iPhone model had to accept a significant disadvantage compared to the Pro series. But with the iPhone 17, Apple has revolutionized this.
The most significant upgrade is the 120Hz ProMotion display. After a long period of criticism for retaining the outdated 60Hz refresh rate, Apple has equipped the iPhone 17 with a modern LTPO panel.
This technology not only provides a smooth touch experience but also allows the screen to reduce its refresh rate to 1 Hz, supporting the Always-on Display feature, which was previously only available on high-end models.

Another worthwhile feature of the standard iPhone 17 is that Apple has increased the base storage capacity to 256 GB at the same price.

The success of the iPhone 17 lies not only in sales but also in redefining what constitutes a "basic flagship." Apple's integration of so many high-end features into a mainstream price point has forced Android manufacturers to adapt.
"If someone asked me what phone to buy for $800 , I would definitely recommend the iPhone 17. The value it offers truly surpasses its Android competitors in the same price range, something that seemed unthinkable a few years ago," Joe Marking admitted, despite being a loyal Android fan himself.
The iPhone 17 raised the barrier to entry in the premium market. As we move into 2026, the pressure mounts on Google and Samsung. They will need to equip their devices with better quality secondary cameras, superior displays, and larger storage capacities if they don't want to lose this crucial customer segment to Apple.
