The Ho Chi Minh City Museum, in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Student Association, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union , and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, organized a commemorative program themed "The Everlasting Flame of Tran Van On," recalling the glorious traditions of the nation, the fervent patriotism, the indomitable fighting spirit, and the tireless creativity of previous generations of students, contributing to the glorious history of the nation.

Prior to the exchange and opening of the thematic exhibition "Following the Rhythm of the Marching Song," historical witnesses, along with young members of the Youth Union and students from Ton Duc Thang University, Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts, etc., offered incense and flowers to Mr. Tran Van On and Ms. Quach Thi Trang at Bach Tung Diep Park.
The thematic exhibition, "Following the Rhythm of the Marching Song," showcases images of the struggle movement of generations of students in Saigon - Gia Dinh during the resistance war against the US.
The program included a meeting and exchange with historical witnesses, attended by: Mr. Pham Xuan Binh (alias Hai Hoa), former Chief of the City Youth Union Office, Deputy Head of the City Youth Union's Traditional Club; Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen, former General Secretary of the General Association of Southern Vietnam Students (1971-1972 term), former Standing Committee Member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City; and Ms. Truong My Le (alias Tu Liem), who participated in the revolution and worked with the City Youth Union from the 1960s, present at every stage and transformation of the student movement during the resistance war against the US…

Seventy-five years ago, on January 9, 1950, right in front of the Governor's Palace of Southern Vietnam (now the Ho Chi Minh City Museum), a demonstration by Saigon students took place to condemn the oppressive regime of the French colonialists.
The protest was suppressed, and student Tran Van On, while protecting other students, was shot and killed. Tran Van On's sacrifice became the "trigger" that ignited the student protest movement nationwide, creating a wave of outrage among students in Saigon-Chợ Lớn. His funeral became a large march of thousands of students, residents of Saigon and the surrounding areas at that time.

After January 9th, the flame in the heart of the courageous student Tran Van On spread, igniting into torches that illuminated the path for students to embark on the great struggle of the nation, creating a period of unwavering forging in the fiery crucible of the two resistance wars against France and the United States.

The stories of a time of patriotic and heroic youth, of days of struggle for a homeland free from the sound of gunfire, are recounted by historical witnesses… Contributing to creating motivation and encouraging the younger generation to continue and develop precious traditions, contributing their efforts to the cause of building a prosperous and developing Vietnam in an era of progress.
