At 33 years old, Neymar aims to regain his consistency and high-intensity form in preparation for the 2026 World Cup. |
According to Globo , Santos FC wants to extend Neymar's contract for another year (until the end of December 2026). The Brazilian club has not hidden its satisfaction with the 33-year-old striker's performance and is determined to keep him as they work towards their dream of the 2026 World Cup.
Neymar returned to Santos from Al Hilal in January 2025 after persistent injuries, playing a major role in helping the club avoid relegation from Serie A with 3 goals and 2 assists in the final 3 matches of the season.
He is now free to negotiate his departure as a free agent, but Santos, under president Marcelo Teixeira, is pushing ahead with negotiations to make him a long-term key player.
President Teixeira affirmed: "Extending Neymar's contract is our top priority. We are negotiating to find common ground, adjusting the current contract until 2026. Everything depends on the budget, but we are very confident."
The offer included a salary of approximately 4.14 million real (around $770,000 USD ) per month, along with bonuses based on the number of matches and goals, and Santos committed to gradually paying off 13 million euros of old debt by the end of 2026.
Neymar is reportedly comfortable at Santos after a long stint playing in Europe and the Middle East. He wants to continue playing in a familiar environment, close to his family. Neymar's wishes align with the club's direction: a short-term contract, focusing on performance and a leadership role for the younger generation.
