OpenAI has partnered with Shopify to bring e-commerce directly to ChatGPT. The new feature allows users to browse, inquire, and purchase products without leaving the chat. It's a big step forward, transforming ChatGPT from a helpful assistant into a full-fledged shopping tool.

According to Gizchina , the system has started to deploy in the background. Developers discovered new source code on OpenAI's website, showing that the shopping integration is almost ready. Some of the code even includes links that lead directly to Shopify's checkout page.

With this feature in place, users don’t need to switch to other websites. They can search for items, read product details, and complete the purchase. Everything happens within the chat window.

Shopify’s large network of merchants will also be part of the system, bringing richness and diversity of products while opening the door for businesses to reach users through ChatGPT.

This feature is in the development stage and will be available soon. Besides OpenAI, other tech companies are also thinking about incorporating shopping experiences into their AI tools.

Microsoft recently launched the Copilot Merchant Program , which includes adding shopping features to its AI engine. Prior to that, Perplexity rolled out a “Buy with Pro” option in 2024.

AI-powered shopping is starting to emerge. This could improve the way users interact with online stores. Instead of typing search terms into a website, they simply ask a question. AI can then present options, answer questions, and help complete purchases.
