The Quang Tri Newspaper, in its April 3, 2025 issue, published an article titled: "Dong Ha: Scrap cars piled up in a yard causing urban blight and safety hazards," reflecting on the fact that more than a dozen scrap cars of various types were piled up in a residential area on Con Co Street, in Quarter 1, Ward 2, Dong Ha City, causing a loss of urban aesthetics.

According to local residents, scrap cars have been accumulating here for about 2-3 years now. Initially, there were only a few, but the number has increased significantly. Most of the cars have had their windows smashed, their bodies dented, and their interiors dismantled for parts. Not only does this detract from the urban landscape, but this dumping site also poses many other dangers, especially with broken car windows scattered everywhere. In particular, many children playing here have thrown broken glass shards into the fields, causing concern among residents about stepping on them while working in the fields later on.
Speaking with reporters on the morning of May 6th, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ward 2, Nguyen Duy Duc, said that immediately after the Quang Tri newspaper reported on the issue, the ward invited the owner of the scrap car storage area, Mr. Phan Van Tu (residing in Quarter 1, Ward 2), to a meeting and requested him to clean up the area to return it to public use. “Upon inspection, it was determined that the location of the scrap car storage area, whose use had expired, was on public land. Therefore, we requested Mr. Tu to promptly clean up and relocate the area to return it. At the same time, the ward assigned officials to supervise and monitor Mr. Tu's compliance, and to date, the scrap car storage area has been basically cleaned up,” Mr. Duc said.
On-site observations show that the scrapped car parts have been dismantled, sorted, and transported elsewhere. The scattered shards of glass from the car windows have been swept up and collected. Currently, only a small pile of discarded plastic and rubber parts remains in the area. Essentially, the public space has been cleared to ensure safe walking and exercise for residents.
