Vietnam currently has more than 320 seaports, of which about 35-40 are large-scale ports such as Hai Phong, Da Nang , Cai Mep - Thi Vai, showing the potential to become an important transit point in the context of shifting global supply chains. Along with opportunities, the requirements for upgrading infrastructure, energy management and emission reduction are increasingly clear in the process of sustainable development of the seaport industry.
In the spirit of promoting cooperation and innovation, on the afternoon of September 9, 2025, Schneider Electric coordinated with Vietnam National Shipping Lines ( VIMC ) to organize the workshop "Cooperation and Innovation for Green Ports", focusing on major orientations to help Vietnam's seaport system improve its competitiveness: electrification of infrastructure - equipment, digital transformation of operations and effective energy management. The workshop aims to reduce emissions, increase operational efficiency, meet sustainable development requirements and international standards in the maritime sector.
The workshop was attended by Mr. Dong Mai Lam, General Director of Schneider Electric Vietnam and Cambodia, and global experts from 5 countries, with experience in the field of energy management and seaport digitalization, sharing advanced solutions and suggesting technical roadmaps suitable for Vietnam's conditions.
VIMC General Director Le Anh Son: "VIMC identifies digital transformation and green transformation as key tasks"
On VIMC's side, there were General Director Le Anh Son, Deputy General Director Nguyen Ngoc Anh, leaders of professional departments and representatives of member units.
Speaking at the event, VIMC General Director Le Anh Son emphasized: "VIMC has identified digital transformation and green transformation as a key task, a driving force for growth in the coming time of the entire Corporation. We consider it a competitive weapon in the future."
Mr. Dong Mai Lam, General Director of Schneider Electric Vietnam and Cambodia said: "Schneider Electric is a world -leading corporation in digital transformation, energy management, and automation. We are committed to bringing advanced solutions in electrification, digitalization, and automation to the port industry to help partners and customers achieve optimal financial efficiency as well as prepare for a sustainable development future."
"Schneider Electric's strength in promoting green seaports lies in the combination of electrification and digitalization towards sustainable development. We have a combination of advanced global technology and a team of experts with deep understanding of the context in Vietnam. Therefore, Scneider Electric is a reliable partner for businesses in providing green seaport solutions," said Mr. Lam.
General Director of Schneider Electric Vietnam and Cambodia: "We are committed to providing and transferring the world's advanced solutions in electrification and digitalization of seaports to partners and customers in Vietnam"
In electrification and energy management, Schneider Electric introduces solutions that have been successfully deployed in many ports around the world to gradually replace fossil fuels in seaport operations; provide shore-based electricity to ships when anchored, instead of ships having to use diesel engines, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and noise at ports; in addition, supporting smart energy management, optimizing the use of renewable energy at ports.
In port infrastructure automation and digitalization, Schneider shares solutions: Digital transformation of operations through the design - management and centralized maintenance of the entire data system with a unified operations center (UOC) using the AVEVA industrial software solution suite and digital twin technology. The solution helps collect real-time data from sensors, devices and systems at the port, then store, standardize and process the data, thereby providing visual reports on the entire port operations, helping managers monitor performance, make quick decisions and respond promptly to incidents.
Efficient Energy Management solution through EcoStruxure IoT platform; EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert & Power Operation helps monitor and control energy operations and infrastructure in real time.
These solutions help improve efficiency in energy use in particular and port operations in general, helping to reduce emissions and move towards sustainable development.
Experts and speakers presented content in the workshop
In the professional exchange section, the contents focused on three key approaches: (i) optimizing port operations through digital solutions; (ii) energy management to improve efficiency and reduce costs; (iii) reducing emissions, towards a green - smart - efficient port model.
The proposals are aimed at realizing Vietnam's seaport infrastructure transformation strategy, while meeting the increasing demands for sustainable development.
The workshop ended with many important suggestions. The recorded solutions will continue to be researched, evaluated for feasibility and considered for pilot implementation at a number of member ports. Thereby, Schneider Electric and VIMC expressed their determination to accompany strategic partners to gradually build a green port model - digital port, contributing to the sustainable development goals of the maritime industry and the country's economy.
