Vietnam currently has over 320 seaports, including approximately 35-40 large-scale ports such as Hai Phong, Da Nang , and Cai Mep-Thi Vai, demonstrating its potential to become an important transit hub in the context of global supply chain shifts. Along with these opportunities, the need for infrastructure upgrades, energy management, and emission reduction is becoming increasingly evident in the sustainable development of the seaport industry.

In the spirit of promoting cooperation and innovation, on the afternoon of September 9, 2025, Schneider Electric, in collaboration with the Vietnam Maritime Corporation ( VIMC ), organized a workshop titled "Cooperation and Innovation for Green Ports," focusing on major directions to help Vietnam's port system enhance its competitiveness: electrification of infrastructure and equipment, digital transformation of operations, and efficient energy management. The workshop aimed to reduce emissions, increase operational efficiency, and meet the requirements of sustainable development and international standards in the maritime sector.

The workshop was attended by Mr. Dong Mai Lam, General Director of Schneider Electric Vietnam and Cambodia, along with global experts from 5 countries, who, with experience in energy management and port digitalization, shared advanced solutions and suggested technical roadmaps suitable for Vietnam's conditions.

VIMC General Director Le Anh Son: "VIMC identifies digital transformation and green transformation as key priorities."

On VIMC's side, the attendees included General Director Le Anh Son, Deputy General Director Nguyen Ngoc Anh, along with leaders of specialized departments and representatives from member units.

Speaking at the event, VIMC General Director Le Anh Son emphasized: "VIMC has identified digital transformation and green transformation as a key task and a driving force for future growth of the entire corporation. We consider it a competitive weapon for the future."

Mr. Dong Mai Lam, General Director of Schneider Electric Vietnam and Cambodia, said: "Schneider Electric is a world leader in digital transformation, energy management, and automation. We are committed to bringing advanced solutions in electrification, digitalization, and automation to the port industry to help our partners and customers achieve optimal financial efficiency and prepare for sustainable future development."

"Schneider Electric's strength in promoting green ports lies in the combination of electrification and digitalization towards sustainable development. We combine advanced global technology with a team of experts deeply knowledgeable about the Vietnamese context. Therefore, Schneider Electric is a reliable partner for businesses in providing green port solutions," Mr. Lam said.

General Director of Schneider Electric Vietnam and Cambodia: "We are committed to providing and transferring world-class solutions in port electrification and digitalization to our partners and customers in Vietnam."

In the field of electrification and energy management, Schneider Electric introduces solutions that have been successfully implemented in many ports worldwide, helping to gradually replace fossil fuels in port operations; providing electricity from shore to ships when anchored, instead of ships having to use diesel engines, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions and noise at the port; and supporting smart energy management, optimizing the use of renewable energy at the port.

In port infrastructure automation and digitalization, Schneider shares solutions: Digital transformation of operations through centralized design, management, and maintenance of the entire data system with a unified operations center (UOC) using the AVEVA industrial software suite and digital twin technology. The solution collects real-time data from sensors, equipment, and systems on the port, then stores, standardizes, and processes the data, thereby providing visual reports on all port operations. This helps managers monitor performance, make quick decisions, and respond promptly to incidents.

EcoStruxure IoT platform provides efficient energy management solutions; EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert & Power Operation helps monitor and control energy operations and infrastructure in real time.

These solutions help improve energy efficiency in particular and the overall operational efficiency of the port in general, helping to reduce emissions and move towards sustainable development.

These products offer energy savings of over 30%, increased system uptime, and seamless integration into modern building management systems (BMS).

In the professional exchange session, the content focused on three key approaches: (i) optimizing port operations through digital solutions; (ii) energy management to improve efficiency and reduce costs; and (iii) reducing emissions, aiming for a green, smart, and efficient port model.

The proposals put forward all aim to realize Vietnam's port infrastructure transformation strategy while meeting the increasingly high demands for sustainable development.

The workshop concluded with many important insights. The solutions identified will continue to be researched, evaluated for feasibility, and considered for pilot implementation at several member ports. Through this, Schneider Electric and VIMC demonstrated their commitment to working alongside strategic partners to gradually build a green port – a digital port – contributing to the sustainable development goals of the maritime industry and the national economy.
