Accordingly, the National Journalism Award is held annually nationwide. The organizing body is the Vietnam Journalists Association . The coordinating body is the Ministry of Information and Communications, with the participation of the Central Propaganda Department.

The purpose and requirements of the Award are to select and award prizes to journalistic works and products that are of high quality in terms of ideology, politics , and culture; have attractive content and form of expression, achieve high social effectiveness, and make a positive contribution to the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland.

Through the National Journalism Awards, we aim to encourage and promote the creative work of journalists nationwide; and to discover, nurture, and honor journalistic talents in society.

According to Decision No. 50, the structure of the National Journalism Awards will include two new awards: the Multimedia Journalism Award and the Creative Journalism Award.

The revised regulations for the National Press Awards will add two new award categories (Figure 1).

The 18th National Journalism Awards Ceremony - 2023 took place on the evening of June 21, 2024.

Regarding the Multimedia Journalism Awards, there are 3 categories: Infographics, Video clips, Podcasts, Multimedia news packages, Data journalism products, Interactive journalism products, etc.

Specifically, the National Press Awards Council will award prizes to journalistic works and products that utilize multimedia data and apply digital media production processes, techniques, and technologies in content creation and production; with independent formats such as: infographics, video clips, podcasts, multimedia news packages, data-driven journalistic products, interactive journalistic products, etc.

This will encourage entries to transcend the limitations of journalistic genre, creating multi-format or multi-platform journalistic works and products. For example, podcasts can be published on radio, online newspapers, or television programs, in the form of video podcasts. Therefore, it increases the opportunities for participation for all authors and media organizations without being limited by genre or type.

The award aligns with the trends and practices of developing a professional, humane, and modern press; encourages journalistic works that suit the tastes of the digital press audience; creates momentum for the development of multi-platform, multi-media, data-driven journalism and the application of technology in media; and promotes the application of technology and digital transformation in journalism.

Regarding the Creative Journalism Awards, there is one category of awards: Awards for Creative Journalistic Works, Products, and Programs. Specifically, the Organizing Committee awards prizes to journalistic works, products, and programs that demonstrate high creativity and go beyond traditional journalistic forms.

Entries will not be judged based on type or genre, but must meet the requirements of modern journalism, encouraging multi-format, multi-platform, multi-media, data-driven, and automated journalistic works.

The Creative Journalism Award will promote increased opportunities for participation from all authors and media organizations, without being limited by type or genre.

At the same time, it encourages and promotes innovation in professional, humane, and modern journalism; creates momentum for the development of multi-platform, multi-media journalism, data journalism, and the application of technology in media; and promotes the application of technology and digital transformation in journalism.

Furthermore, regarding the Radio Broadcasting category, in addition to retaining the two award groups, the next season will see a streamlined and more efficient arrangement. A Documentary Reporting category will be added, while the Memoir category will be removed because, according to the judging panel, very few works fall under the radio memoir genre.

The decision also clarifies the number of authors in the team for works on television journalism, multimedia journalism, and creative journalism. Accordingly, the maximum number of authors for a work or product in television journalism, multimedia journalism, or creative journalism is 10 people.

Simultaneously, the method of secret ballot voting for the Special Prize and thematic Prize will be changed. For the Special Prize, if among the A Prize winners there is a work deserving of the Special Prize, the Final Judging Panel will discuss and decide whether to award it through a secret ballot. The work winning the Special Prize needs to receive more than half (over 50%) of the votes from the members of the final judging panel.

In the Specialized Award category, depending on the annual circumstances, the final judging panel discusses and decides on a secret ballot to select the groups of specialized journalistic works and products from among those shortlisted for the final round. The Specialized Award requires a majority (over 50%) of the votes from the final judging panel members.

Thus, the structure of the Awards has been revised as follows: The 2019 Regulations included 5 types of awards with 11 award groups. The 2024 Regulations include 7 types of awards with 13 award groups; of which: 11 award groups from the 2019 Regulations remain unchanged, and 2 new types of awards are added.
