On April 10th, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) - a founding member of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC C4IR) - collaborated with HCMC C4IR to organize the 2nd International Scientific Conference “Green Solutions and Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Development” - 2025 (GSETS 2025).

This is a large-scale and influential science and technology event, bringing together leading experts from both domestic and international backgrounds, opening up opportunities for exchange and collaborative research on new materials and technologies, aiming to realize the United Nations' sustainable development goals.

The conference focused on three main thematic groups: advanced materials and green manufacturing technologies, technological solutions for sustainable development, and data science - artificial intelligence for sustainable development.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Huy, Deputy Director of HCMC C4IR, said that the Center will play a vital role in connecting policies, technologies, and implementation capabilities, promoting a modern and smart industrial ecosystem in Ho Chi Minh City, and enhancing Vietnam's competitiveness in the global value chain.

Since September last year, the unit has officially launched in Vietnam, becoming an active member of the global innovation network. Currently, there are approximately 24 similar centers worldwide , and Vietnam is one of the important connecting points, after Malaysia.

In line with its operational direction, HCMC C4IR focuses on promoting cooperation with universities, especially those under the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. The two sides have jointly developed a collaborative plan, focusing on areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), smart manufacturing, semiconductors, and applied technologies serving sustainable development.

In the coming period, the goal is to continue connecting international resources, establishing specific collaborations, and proposing appropriate policy mechanisms to "popularize AI" for the people.

"How can we ensure that everyone can learn about and apply AI to serve their lives and work? We cannot do this alone; we must coordinate with all relevant parties. We plan to finalize the plan in the near future and submit a proposal to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for consideration and approval, and then present it to the City People's Council for the issuance of a separate resolution on the popularization of AI," Mr. Huy said.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Hoan emphasized that, in the context of increasingly serious climate change and resource depletion, sustainable development is no longer an option but an inevitable requirement.

Ho Chi Minh City highly appreciates the conference's theme, which aligns with global trends and closely follows the strategic direction of Resolution 57-NQ/TW on science, technology, and digital transformation until 2030, with a vision to 2045.

With a vision to build a modern and sustainable city, Ho Chi Minh City has demonstrated a strong commitment through its cooperation with the World Economic Forum (WEF) to establish the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Ho Chi Minh City - the second member in Southeast Asia in the WEF's global network of 21 C4IRs.

In 2025, the Center will implement several important strategic tasks, including: Collaborating with the WEF to provide global perspectives and policy recommendations for Ho Chi Minh City and the entire country, implementing Resolution 57; operating a testing model (sandbox) on new technologies, especially artificial intelligence; developing key projects on green transformation, renewable energy, green finance, and sustainable industry; advising the International Finance Centre on policies and the national strategy on the Fourth Industrial Revolution until 2030.

Within the framework of GSETS 2025, HUTECH organized the launch ceremony of the international scientific journal Materials and Emerging Technology for Sustainability (METS), bringing together nearly 20 experts and scientists from countries such as the USA, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Italy, India, China, etc.

METS is an academic forum aimed at sharing research achievements and innovations from Vietnamese and international scientists in the fields of technology and sustainable development.
