According to American media, Serena Williams will officially return when she competes in doubles at a tournament at Queen's Club (on grass).
The Associated Press quoted Serena as saying: "Queen's Club seems like the perfect place to start the next chapter of my tennis career."
"The grass court has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I'm thrilled to be back competing on one of the most iconic stages in the sport ," Serena continued.
The Queen's Club Championships will begin next Monday. The Women 's Tennis Association (WTA) said Serena's teammate will be "announced in due course".
Commenting on Serena's return, legend John McEnroe (USA) predicted that Williams could compete in the women's singles at Wimbledon - the tournament starting on June 28th.
"She's not young anymore, but she's Serena Williams, so I'm sure she'll tell me she wants to win the whole tournament," McEnroe was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
Serena had a brilliant tennis career, winning 23 Grand Slam titles, the most in the Open Era. In 2022, Serena announced her retirement from tennis, but did not call her decision "retirement".
Serena stated that she is simply "developing" and stepping away from tennis. Last January, Serena enrolled in the mandatory anti-doping program, marking her first step towards a return to tennis.
