Benjamin Sesko has not lived up to expectations. |
Former England striker Alan Shearer believes the £80m signing from RB Leipzig is clearly losing out to two other attacking recruits, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. "The game against Forest showed that Sesko is not much better than Hojlund," Shearer said. "He doesn't score, he doesn't assist. What worries me most is that Sesko doesn't win a single one-on-one."
Against Forest, Sesko was lackluster. The striker struggled against Forest's physical defense. He failed to make a significant impact.
Speaking on Sky Sports, former Manchester United star Gary Neville also worried: “It remains to be seen. Sesko is far behind other summer signings in attack like Cunha and Mbeumo. He looked awkward, had a few good chances against Nottingham Forest but didn’t touch the ball properly. For £80m, Sesko is young and is settling in, but you still want to see more.”
Sesko has scored two goals in 10 Premier League appearances for Manchester United. The former RB Leipzig star's lacklustre form was highlighted by his poor performance against Forest. England legend Gary Lineker has highlighted the high expectations for the transfer fee, and the comparisons with Hojlund suggest Sesko is struggling.
Lineker also questioned the Slovenian striker's ability to adapt quickly to the harsh environment of Old Trafford: "Sesko needs to shine quickly, otherwise he will follow in Hojlund's footsteps."
