Benjamin Sesko has not lived up to expectations. |
Former England striker Alan Shearer believes that the £80 million signing from RB Leipzig is clearly outmatched by the other two attacking new recruits, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. "The game against Forest showed Sesko is not significantly better than Hojlund," Shearer assessed. "He didn't score, he didn't provide an assist. What worries me most is that Sesko couldn't win a single one-on-one duel."
Against Forest, Sesko was lackluster. The striker struggled against Forest's physically strong defense and failed to make any significant impact.
Speaking on Sky Sports, former Manchester United star Gary Neville also expressed his concerns: “It remains to be seen. Sesko is far behind other summer signings in attack like Cunha and Mbeumo. He looked awkward, had a few good chances against Nottingham Forest but his touch wasn't right. At £80 million, you could say Sesko is young and settling in, but you still want to see more.”
Sesko has scored two goals in ten Premier League games for Manchester United. The former RB Leipzig star's lackluster form is further highlighted by his poor performance against Forest. English football legend Gary Lineker has emphasized the high expectations stemming from his transfer fee, and the comparison to Hojlund suggests Sesko is struggling.
Lineker also questioned the Slovenian striker's ability to adapt quickly to the demanding environment of Old Trafford: "Sesko needs to shine quickly, otherwise he will follow in Hojlund's footsteps."
