Although it is unlikely to enter the South China Sea, Vietnam's meteorological agency said it is still monitoring the storm's developments.
According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, due to the influence of the El Nino phenomenon, the number of typhoons in the East Sea is expected to be lower than the multi-year average, with approximately 8-10 storms, of which 3-5 will affect the mainland of Vietnam, concentrated in July-September in the North and October-November in the Central region, and the possibility of affecting the Southern region in the last months of the year cannot be ruled out.
However, the meteorological agency also noted that a distinctive feature of El Nino years is the very warm sea surface conditions, thus increasing the risk of very strong and unpredictable storms.
