Adora Magic City, China's first domestically built 16-deck cruise ship, is preparing for its maiden voyage from Shanghai to South Korea and Japan.
The cruise ship will depart from Shanghai port on January 1st, beginning its first 6-day journey to Jeju Island, South Korea, and Nagasaki and Fukuoka, Japan.
This is China's first domestically built cruise ship, constructed by Shanghai Wai Gaoqiao Construction Company. The cruise ship is operated by Adora Cruises, a joint venture between China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and the American company Carnival Corporation.
The cruise ship is 323.6 meters long, has 2,125 rooms, and can carry up to 5,246 passengers. It has 16 decks, 22 restaurants, bars, a mahjong room, a brewery, duty-free shops, and a traditional Chinese opera theater.

Chinese media hailed the Adora Magic City cruise ship as a significant milestone, demonstrating that domestic shipbuilding companies can complete the most challenging projects, including aircraft carriers and large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
The cruise ship made its maiden voyage amid a recovery in China's domestic tourism following the Covid-19 pandemic and efforts by authorities to stimulate overseas travel.
The cruise line currently focuses primarily on short-haul itineraries around Northeast Asia, with plans to add routes to Southeast Asia. Tickets for voyages in the first two months of 2024 are already sold out. The price for a luxury cabin for two people in February is approximately 8,500 yuan (US$1,200).
