ANTD.VN - Pork suppliers to supermarkets are proposing price increases for their products due to the sharp rise in live pig prices recently.
Meat prices at the market have risen sharply. |
On March 12th, live pig prices in the northern region reversed their upward trend and decreased. Provinces such as Bac Giang, Nam Dinh, Thai Nguyen, Thai Binh, and Hanoi all recorded adjusted prices of 77,000 VND/kg, 1,000 VND/kg lower than the previous day.
Currently, the region is recording transaction prices ranging from 76,000 to 77,000 VND/kg, with the lowest price of 76,000 VND/kg recorded in Lao Cai , Yen Bai, and Ninh Binh.
Pork prices in the Central and Central Highlands regions remained stable, with the highest price at 82,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, prices in the South continued to rise sharply.
The provinces of Binh Duong and Ca Mau have both adjusted prices up to 82,000 VND/kg, while Dong Thap has reached 81,000 VND/kg.
Currently, the purchase price of live pigs in the South ranges from 80,000 to 83,000 VND/kg. Dong Nai - the country's livestock capital - continues to hold the record for the highest live pig price today (83,000 VND/kg).
Along with the increase in live pig prices, pork prices at markets in Hanoi and other northern provinces have risen sharply. Pork belly and shoulder are currently priced at 160,000-165,000 VND/kg; pork ribs at 165,000 VND/kg. This price is up about 15,000 VND/kg compared to the end of February.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang (a small trader at My Dinh market) said: "The sharp increase in meat prices has slowed sales, and on many days, we have a lot of unsold meat. People are buying chicken and fish as substitutes because the prices of these items are stable."
Not only at markets, but some supermarkets are also preparing to raise pork prices. A representative of a large supermarket chain said that the supermarket had received requests for price increases from suppliers. However, the expected increase is less than 4%. "This increase is in line with market developments," said the representative of this retail chain.
In the southern region, due to the high price of live pigs, maintaining the current stable price of pork could lead to losses for the company. Therefore, Vissan Company - a participant in the pork price stabilization program in Ho Chi Minh City - has submitted a request to the Departments of Finance and Industry and Trade to adjust pork prices from March 17th. Vissan proposes a 6-7% increase in the price of its stabilized pork products.
Also in this area, Ha Hien Fresh Food Company has increased prices for many products. Accordingly, the price of pork at Ha Hien is currently fluctuating from 85,000 to 191,000 VND/kg, a significant increase compared to before.
Conversely, the price of chilled pork from Meat Deli on winmart.vn remained stable on the morning of March 12th. Currently, products are listed at around 119,922 - 163,122 VND/kg and are discounted by 20% as part of a promotion for WinMart members.
