Sir Alex Ferguson has faced many difficulties in his life since the death of his wife of nearly 58 years, Lady Cathy, in 2023.

In recent years, Sir Alex has been actively involved in charitable activities.

In an interview with The Times , Sir Alex shared: “After my wife passed away, I was practically trapped in life, secluded at home. I then moved to the countryside, right next to my son’s house.”

Sir Alex Ferguson praised Cathy as a solid foundation in his life and career. They met in 1964 and married two years later. After Sir Alex retired in 2013, she continued to be his support as he recovered from a stroke.

However, in October 2023, Cathy passed away, a major shock to the Manchester United legend. He left his £3.25 million mansion in Cheshire to buy a £1.2 million house in a peaceful village near his son Darren. Sir Alex said he did this to avoid loneliness in his old age.

Sir Alex will turn 84 this December, and he admits to worrying about his memory: “There are times when I forget things. Nobody has a 100% perfect memory. But as a manager, memory is always important to me. Now, I do a lot of crossword puzzles, sing a lot, and read books to overcome that.”
